The Dragon Aspects of Azeroth have been without their ancestral powers for a while now, but that all seems to be changing inWorld of Warcraft: Dragonflight. The Dragonflights have been left to wander since they used up their powers to stop Deathwing at the end ofCataclysm, and it is up toWorld of Warcraft: Dragonflightplayers to restore them. They must journey to the shrouded continent ofthe Dragon Isles to help the flights reclaim their homeland, and empower their Oathstones once more.

Each zone on the Dragon Isles houses at least one Dragonflight Oathstone, and each Dragonflight has its own. That means that there are five different Oathstones scattered across the Dragon Isles, and the player must help the flights reclaim them. While these stones are heavily ingrained in classicWorld of Warcraftlore, they are actually brand-new additions to the story. As such, some players may not know the extent of the stones' power and what they mean forthe future ofWorld of Warcraft.

The Power of the Dragonflight Oathstones Explained

Each Oathstone represents one of the five major Dragonflights, and they serve as physical representations of the flights' oath to protect Azeroth. They were once powerful monuments of trust housed in the seats of power of each flight, but they all went dormant after the Aspects used up their power inCataclysm. The flights believe that they must fulfill their callings on Azeroth if they want any chance at renewing the stones, and that is what they doduring theDragonflightleveling campaign.

Each Oathstone was created by the Keepers and placed throughout the Dragon Isles. The Ruby Oathstone was placed at the Ruby Lifeshrine in the Waking Shores, the Obsidan Oathstone resides inthe Obsidian Citadel in the Waking Shores, the Emerald Oathstone sits in the Ancient Bough in the Ohn’ahran Plains, the Bronze Oathstone lives in the Temporal Conflux in Thaldraszus, and the Azure Oathstone resides in the Azure Archives in the Azure Span. It is up to the flights to protect them, and they may be the Aspects' best chance at restoring their place in Azeroth.

What the Oathstones Mean for the Future of World of Warcraft’s Dragons

The renewal of theseOathstones means that the Dragonflights may be able to reclaim the powerthat they gave up at the end ofCataclysm. While this has not been confirmed yet, it would seem that empowering the Oathstones has helped safeguard the future of the flights. It has also seemingly helped reforge the Blue Dragonflight under Kalecgos and has brought long-lost members of the Black Dragonflight back into the fray. It seems like the flights have never been more powerful, and they will need all the power they can get for the fight ahead.

The newly powered-up flights should have all the power they need now to reclaim their position as caretakers of Azeroth. They will hopefully take back up their roles in the world, and help safeguard the planet from all sorts of dangers that loom on the horizon. However, they must first take care of the Primalists who have only grown in power since the end of the Vault of Incarnates raid. Hopefully the power that the Aspects have reclaimed will be enough to stop the Primal Incarnates from ridding the world of the titans' stain.

Renewing the Dragonflight Oathstones wasa major part of theDragonflightleveling campaign, and they will most likely play a large role as the expansion continues. They are a physical representation of the bond between the titans and the flights, and they have helped renew the flights' purpose on Azeroth. They may be some of the most important monuments in Azeroth’s history, and the Primalists will stop at nothing to destroy them.
