The Reins of the Violet Proto Drake is a rare mountWorld of Warcraftplayers can unlock by completing the meta-achievements for the 8 major holiday events. However,World of Warcraftjust recently removed a particularly frustrating requirement from the Children’s Week seasonal event achievements: the PvP achievement, School of Hard Knocks.
Children’s Week is a seasonalholiday held at the beginning of May inWorld of Warcrafteach year. The event itself is inspired by Children’s Day, a real holiday celebrated in Japan. During the event, players can bond with the orphans of Azeroth and showcase the marvels of theWorld of Warcraft.

While most of theWorld of Warcraftachievements required to unlockthe For the Children meta-achievement involved PvE content, the School of Hard Knocks achievement required players to venture into various PvP battlegrounds and accomplish specific tasks. As the only instance of PvP content required for the seasonal event meta-achievement, What a Long, Strange Trip It’s Been, the School of Hard Knocks achievement was the one thing preventing many players from getting the coveted Violet Proto-Drake mount.
Considering players have been beggingWorld of Warcraftto remove the School of Hard Knocks achievement from the meta-achievement for 14 years, fans are elated to find Blizzard finally listened. The achievement is considered to be one of the more difficult ones to earn, especially since it can only be earned for one week out of the year.
Of course, players who already earned the School of Hard Knocks achievement throughWorld of WarcraftPvPare upset that it was removed as a requirement for the mount. These players think the exclusivity of the mount was part of its draw, and that it is too easy to get now. However, most players who have already unlocked the achievement are simply glad others won’t have to suffer like they did. Though this year’s Children’s Week event inWoWends on May 9th, players should still have time to complete the event’s achievements since the School of Hard Knocks has been removed. If players miss it this year, the event will repeat next year.
Horde players going through the event should pay close attention to Salandria–the Blood Elf orphan in Shattrath. A grown-up Salandria will appear in an upcomingBlood Elf Heritage Armor questline coming inShadowlandsPatch 9.2.5, and dialogue from a bronze dragon during the Children’s Week event has led some fans to believe she and her draenei counterpart, Dornaa, may play a role inDragonflight.
