Summary
For the last 20 years or so, DC has only really focused on one superhero for its video game output, and that’s Batman. First, it was the endless stream of movie tie-in Batman games, beginning in the 1980s with Tim Burton’s firstBatmanmovie and running right up untiltheBatman Beginstie-in game in 2005. ThenBatman: Arkham Asylumreleased, and naturally, DC continued to double down on the Caped Crusader. Even the LEGO DC games all revolved around Batman. But while Batman is still set to appear in the game, games like the upcomingSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguemight be shifting the focus away from the World’s Greatest Detective.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguehasn’t had the best public reception so far, with fans wasting no time in taking to the internet to loudly voice their disappointment in the title’s looter-shooter gameplay when it was first revealed earlier this year. That ledWarner Bros. and Rocksteady to delay the gameby almost an entire year, and while no news has come out about the game since, it’s still possible for Rocksteady to put things back on course. Though its gameplay doesn’t look great,Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguehas an intriguing premise at its core, as it sees a ragtag team of antiheroes going up against the world’s greatest superhero team. But Wonder Woman is one Justice League member who might not be seen all that much inSuicide Squad, and that might be for the best.

The core conceit ofSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueis that Brainiac has invaded the Earth, and he’s seeminglybrain-washed the Justice Leagueinto helping him conquer the planet for good. As the game’s title implies, players will then control the Suicide Squad as they apparently attempt to take down each member of the Justice League, likely one at a time. But while Green Lantern, Batman, the Flash, and even Superman have all been taken over by Brainiac, it seems like Wonder Woman has somehow avoided his corruption.
Thetrailers released forSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueshow the hero trying to take down several members of the Justice League, presumably at different moments in the game’s story. Based on the trailer, it seems like players won’t be facing off against Wonder Woman during the game, but instead working alongside her. And though her capacity in the game’s story hasn’t been confirmed just yet, it’s more than possible that Rocksteady will only use Wonder Woman in key moments of the story, as having her around for the whole game would render the Suicide Squad’s abilities a bit pointless.
Wonder Woman Is Getting a Game All to Herself
While it might be disappointing, and maybe a tad nonsensical, to see Wonder Woman come and go throughoutSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, it might actually be for the best in the long run, as Wonder Woman is about to get a whole game to herself. Announced all the way back in December 2021, Monolith currently has a Wonder Woman game in development.
Despite being announced almost two years ago now, fans still know practically nothing about the game except that it’ll probably be some kind of action-adventure title, and that it’ll probably use some form of Nemesis system as it’s coming from the dev behind theMiddle-Earth: Shadowseries. Aside from that, nothing is known aboutMonolith’s Wonder Woman game. Everything from its setting to its specific version of Wonder Woman herself is still shrouded in complete mystery.
While it hasn’t been confirmed one way or the other, it seems extremely unlikely that Monolith’s Wonder Woman will be the same version of the character seen in Rocksteady’sSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
But Wonder Woman appearing only briefly duringSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s storywould actually be a positive thing for Monolith’s game, giving the studio more freedom to cement its own version of the character. If Wonder Woman appears throughoutSuicide Squad, then fans might end up bonding with this particular version of the character quite a bit, and when Monolith’s version is inevitably different, this could cause some issues. Instead,Suicide Squadgiving Wonder Woman a smaller role would pave the way for Monolith’s iteration to really stand out.
