The Outer Worldshas been out since October of 2019 and many gamers believed it to be the game that would set Obsidian Entertainment apart from Bethesda Softworks. Much of the advertising forThe Outer Worldswas made with this in mind by honing in on the point that Obsidian madeFallout: New Vegas, often lauded as the last goodFalloutgame, and now that story is expanding.

Now,Obsidian Entertainmentannounced that there will be a DLC forThe Outer Worldsknown asPeril on Gorgon. Many players of the game were waiting for this opportunity as it became obvious through playingThe Outer Worldsthat some kind of DLC was due to arrive. There are a few planets on the overworld map that players who beat the game noticed were not accessible. If there was no way to go to these locations in the base game then surely there should be some content update that eventually unlocks them.Peril on Gorgonwill be responsible for unlocking one of these locations.

What is the Peril?

The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgonis a massive side quest where the player embarks on a journey to the Gorgon asteroid mining outpost. ThisDLC forThe Outer Worldswill be completely optional and does not have to be completed to get to the end of the game. The only prerequisite is that the player must complete the story mission on Monarch to gain access to the severed arm that starts the quest and unlocks the planet. The purpose of this mission is to uncover the truth about the experiments that went on before the outpost was abandoned and why the corporations are suddenly interested in the outpost. There are currently no specific details on what the quests actually go through, yet the trailer indicates that the Spacer’s Choice company will be actively engaged in the plot behind Gorgon.

What to Expect From the Peril?

ThePeril on GorgonDLCpromises a few things. The first of which is obvious, a new planet. Having a new area will be key to this DLC’s success, but only if its expansive enough. One of the main criticisms ofThe Outer Worldswas how limiting the “open world” was. There were only nine major locations in the base game and there were also four other major locations that are currently inaccessible. None of these locations are Gorgon, so this means that Gorgon will be added to the map once the DLC is released. There is major speculation that these inaccessible locations will eventually become unlocked with further unannounced DLC. Not all of them are likely, though, as only two DLCs have been announced.

With new locations comes new NPCs.The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgonexpansionhas not specified what the new NPCs will be beyond a few human characters to interact with for quest progression and a couple of robot bartenders. There is a possibility that a new NPC follower may be included on Gorgonm yet any details about that would be pure speculation. If there were a new follower, that would also mean there would be a new follower quest line, further adding to the content the DLC brings with it. The trailer does indicate that there will be a good mix of human NPCs and aggressive fauna to combat on the planet which is in line for whatThe Outer Worldsis known for.

OuterWorldsGorgonWeapon

The last thing to expect fromPeril on Gorgonwould be new weapons and armor. The trailer confirms at least one new melee weapon and claims that there will be a ton of treasure to find on Gorgon. More unique weapons and armor are always a great addition to any RPG as long as there is enough of them. If the only addition is the ornate halberd-like weapon seen in the trailer, then many players would be disappointed. Thelevel cap will be raised inThe Outer Worldsto 33 and a couple of new perks and flaws will be added.

The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgonsells for $14.99 and the season pass forThe Outer Worldsis currently $24.99. More information will eventually be revealed soon as the release date approaches.

The Outer Worldsis available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
