Netflix captioned the tweet “???????” and attached a video of Wednesday writing on a typewriter. The clip is fromWednesdayseason 1’s finale, in which Wednesday finishes writing her manuscript and concludes it with an ambiguous, “The End?” Shortly after, Netflix confirmed thatWednesdayseason 2 was ordered in a separate video.
Wednesdaybroke a few viewership records at Netflix. The series has even surpassed Netflix’s current flagship,Stranger Things,in some ways (it toppled the viewership record for most minutes watched in a single week). TheWednesdayseason 1 finale left several avenues open for season 2. Though Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci) was revealed to be Laurel Gates and her plan was foiled, Wednesday felt confident that she wasn’t the true mastermind behind the plot to bring down Nevermore Academy. Tyler (Hunter Doohan) was also revealed to be the monstrous Hyde, and he was last seen trying to escape from a prison vehicle. Bianca (Joy Sunday) also became entwined with her mother’s scheme to draw in more members for her husband’s cult using Bianca’s siren powers.
Wednesday’s Gwendoline Christie has also hinted at a season 2 return. This is an exciting development because it was thought that Christie’s Principal Weems died in the first season finale. She was, however, a shapeshifter, and there’s no indication that she’s the only one out there. On the other hand, Weems' comeback could have more sinister undertones: could she be the true mastermind, playing a much longer game? If so, what is her plan? Fans will have to wait untilWednesdayseason 2 to find out.
