The gaming community has been reporting issues with variousBethesdagames today, and the gaming behemoth has since responded. Players have shared that they cannot log intoFallout 76, are having issues withFallout 4mods, and cannot enjoy the likes ofThe Elder Scrolls 5: SkyrimorDOOM Eternal. Video game server outagescan be very disheartening. It is quite obnoxious to expect to be enjoying a gaming session after a long day of work or with friends over the weekend only to be halted by servers that have crashed. That seems to have been the case with some Bethesda titles today. But the problems, apparently and thankfully, were short-lived.

According to the @BethesdaSupport Twitter page, multiple titles were being impacted by an outage earlier today. However, it appears that the issue has since been addressed and fixed. After initially sharing the news, Bethesda followed up recently with another tweet letting fans know that systems are fully operational. The hope is that it was a simple hiccup and nothing else. There are instances when server issues like this can last much longer. In the case of theLittleBigPlanetserver problems, the issues persisted for months as it turned out that it was a DDOS attack and not a simple problem.
With a game likeFallout 76being always online, an outage directly impacts gameplay. However, there are non-online titles that players may be confused about not being able to play if a server is down, such asDOOM EternalorThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. The idea of being locked out of solo experiences is why there have often been complaints about the idea of “always online” type servers. In this case, mods and online experiences seem to have been what was most impacted.
One of the most stunning deals in all of gaming over the past 18 months was the Microsoft acquisition of Bethesda, which meant among many things thatXbox Game Pass players will be able to play Bethesda games. That too needs some semblance of an online connection to verify the subscription. Thankfully, it looks like the Bethesda outage was short-lived and players can quickly jump back into the action. Over the years there have been some ugly outages, attacks, and more in the world of gaming. This damage is not too drastic if this was simply a few hours of noFallout 76.
