Despite some leakers stating earlier this year thatThe Division 3wasn’t in Ubisoft’s plans, it seems that isn’t the case. In a rather quiet manner, development of the third mainline entry in the franchise has finally been confirmed. Ubisoft announced that Julian Gerighty will be taking over as executive producer ofThe Divisionbrand at Massive Entertainment, joining the team once his role as creative director ofStar Wars Outlawsis done. While describing Gerighty’s new position, Ubisoft stated, “Now, he’s setting his sights onTom Clancy’s The Division 3, as well as a plethora of other projects set inThe Divisionuniverse.”

The casual mention of the long-awaited sequel did not go unnoticed, andThe Division 3was quickly trending on Twitter and other social media sites. The other projects mentioned in the Ubisoft statement are the free-to-play spin-offsurvival shooterThe Division Heartland, the mobile gameThe Division Resurgence, and perhaps a long-rumored movie adaptation. Many fans of the franchise were not pleased with the reveals of either game project and continued hoping for a true mainline follow-up to the first two entries.

The Division Resurgencehas already had a couple of closed beta tests, however, and feedback in general has been positive. Following in the footsteps of the first game, it takes place in New York City after the Dollar Flu has been unleashed on the populace. It will feature a unique storyline, and this time players will be part of the first wave of Division agents sent in to restore order. The Division Resurgencewill bring back the Dark Zone, though, and there will be cameos from some familiar NPCs.

As forThe Division 3,other than the brief mention in Ubisoft’s announcement of Gerighty’s new role, nothing else is known yet. Hopefully, fans won’t have to wait too much longer for some more tidbits of information and maybe even a trailer or two.

The Division 3is currently in development.
