A Korean streamer andTwitchPartner, Velvet 7, has found herself on the receiving end of another temporary ban from the site. This was not Velvet 7’s first offense, and she received the ban shortly after going live during a recent “Just Chatting” stream onTwitch. The Amazon-owned live-streaming service has had a tumultuous 2022, to say the least. With inconsistent levels of bans being handed out andcriticism from Twitch Partners such as Amouranthconcerning them, it can be unclear what constitutes a violation of Twitch’s policies and terms, aside from blatant law-breaking conduct. Though Twitch’s policies continue to change and adapt to the requests of streamers and viewers, it is not as fast a process as the enforcement of the current rules.RELATED:Twitch Unbans Brunenger After 2 YearsThis time, Velvet 7 was banned for three days, starting on December 12. Velvet 7 stated on her Twitter feed that she still does not know why she was banned once again and that she planned to upload her previous stream to her YouTube channel as evidence. Velvet 7 once served an 18-month ban from Twitch for multiple violations of the site’s policies against sexually suggestive themes and conduct. However, this was prior to Twitch updating their terms of service concerning hot tub streams and similar stream content in 2021. ThoughTwitch created a separate category for hot tub streams, the changes were seen as stopgaps to the larger issue of addressing the site’s enforcement protocols. When the policies were updated, Velvet 7 and her fans were calling for Twitch to allow her to return, which she did in October 2021. Given Velvet 7’s popularity, and the fact that her content revolves around her vlogs, her outfits, and her cosplay of different characters, Velvet 7 stated that she will return after her current ban expires.
However, Velvet 7 was far from the only popular content creator to get a recent ban for suggestive content. Last month, a popular Vtuber namedNyanners was banned from Twitch for a day, which drew criticism against Twitch from her colleagues and her fans. Nyanners explained that her ban was due to a revealing model she used during a Halloween stream and that she has since worked with her artists and with Vshojo to correct the issues from happening.
Suffice it to say, Twitch has found itself in a bit of a downturn following TwitchCon 2022. Withrecent viewership numbers down on Twitch, a new revenue split that has been poorly received by streamers of all kinds, and the recent waves of bans affecting all kinds of content creators, only time will tell if this trend continues for Twitch into 2023 and beyond.
