Gearbox Software and 2K Games' fantasy tabletop-inspired RPGTiny Tina’s Wonderlandshas proved to be a successfulBorderlandsspin-off. The 2022 title contains all the telltaleBorderlandswackiness, with the series' irreverent humor and over-the-top action very apparent inTiny Tina’s Wonderlands' gameplay. However, the recent release also brings lots of its own ideas and twists of the franchise’s formula to the table, giving players a new take on aBorderlandsadventure with its TTRPG aesthetics and themes.
It still has the first-person shooter elements, loot-based gameplay, and a crazy cast of characters like its sci-fi predecessors, butTiny Tina’s Wonderlands’focus on fantasy and its Bunkers & Badasses role-playing features provide players with a really enjoyable and fresh take on the popularBorderlandsseries. In keeping with its themes and setup,Tiny Tina’s Wonderlandshas a collection of unique classesthat gamers can choose from when building their protagonist, and it has recently been announced that a brand-new class is coming with the next DLC.

A New Class Of Character
While previousBorderlandsgames let players choose a classto play with, from powerful Sirens to a deadly Gladiator, the characters were always established and only slightly customizable. Each Vault Hunter came with their own unique personality traits, skills, and abilities, but players couldn’t change the way they looked or who they were. Further, baseBorderlandsgames only came with four options.Tiny Tina’s Wonderlandswas a chance to really mix things up, and the addition of a character creator with diverse options proved to be a popular new feature. Gamers could customize their own Fatemaker and pick from six initial classes, with fans even having a chance to select a subclass for further customization.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlandsseems to be following in the footsteps of previous games likeBorderlands 2andBorderlands: The Pre-Sequel,which added new playable characters in theirDLC such as Gaige the Mechromancerand Aurelia the Baroness. As it launches on Steam,Tiny Tina’s Wonderlandswill be addingan all-new Mirror of Mystery DLC calledMolten Mirrors, which will include the Blightcaller class – a shamanic elementalist that has their own unique set of skills.

The Blightcaller’s Abilities
Themysterious Blightcaller has only just been announced, and Gearbox Software has said that it’s keeping the specific breakdown of the new class' abilities to itself until closer to the launch of the Shattering Spectreglass expansion, though there have been a few details dropped already. As a shamanic elementalist, the Blightcaller will have less of a weapons-based focus than classes like the Clawbringer. They will be able to channel spirits to aid them in battle, as well as summon storms to tear down enemies and cause chaos.
Like the Spore Warden, the Blightcaller has a penchant for poison and uses elemental aspects to deal damage to foes. From what has been revealed so far, it seems like the Blightcaller might be the perfect pairing with the similarlytoxic-focused Spore Wardenwho can also summon tornadoes which could combine with the Blightcaller’s storm powers. Similarly, the Blightcaller’s ability to commune with spirits lends itself well to the Graveborn’s Dark Magic and Death-touched skills, but players will have to decide for themselves how they want to best make use of the Blightcaller’s unique moves.
While the Blightcaller can summon spirits, it’s not clear whether they will have their own companion likethe Clawbringer’s fire-breathing Wyvernor the Spore Warden’s toxin-spewing Mushroom pal. Whatever their abilities, adding a new class toTiny Tina’s Wonderlandswill help mix things up and could bring players back on board after some fairly mediocre DLC to date.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlandsis available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
