For many fans, the latestPlayStation Showcasewas a bit of a mixed bag overall. While reveals like theMetal Gear Solid 3remake,Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s gameplay trailer, andBungie’sMarathonrevivalwere all huge talking points, the vast majority of PlayStation’s latest showcase lacked the same oomph, with a ton of re-reveals and CG trailers taking up the rest of the 1-hour event.
Generally speaking, the recent PlayStation Showcase didn’t deliverthe same level of reveals that many fans had geared themselves up for, but this time it really isn’t on the fans for getting over-hyped. It’s been two years since the last PlayStation Showcase, and with barely any idea of what’s up next for the publisher, it was more than fair to expect a showcase packed to the brim with exciting first-party releases. Now that the dust has started to settle, many fans are left with even more questions than they had before the showcase.

Fans Have a Lot of Questions After the PlayStation Showcase
Before PlayStation’s latest showcase, fans had a rough idea of what they should expect to see. Over the last few years, Sony has been gradually acquiring more and more first-party studios, some of which have been quietly making a PlayStation exclusive for quite some time. This showcase finally felt like the time PlayStation was going to reveal these long-awaited games, but just three were shown: new studioHaven’s brand new IPFairgames, Firewalk’sConcord, and Bungie’sMarathon, all of which mark the start of PlayStation’s next multiplayer-focused phase.
But that’s just scratching the surface of what PlayStation’s first-party studios have in the works right now. Formed in 2012, Team Asobi has spent the last decade creating a handful ofAstrobotgames for PlayStation, and its current project is still completely under wraps. Similarly, Bend Studio, the team behindSyphon FilterandDays Gone, has also seemingly been working on a game for at least three years now, one which the public knows nothing about. Bluepoint Games, mostly known for phenomenal remakes likeShadow of the ColossusandDemon’s Souls, is another first-party Sony studio that’s presumably working on something big for the PS5, and another studio that fans expected to see during the recentPlayStation Showcase.
On top of those studios, Sony also hasLondon Studio, Housemarque, Media Molecule, and Savage, all without currently announced projects. EvenGhost of Tsushima’s Sucker Punch andGod of War’s Santa Monica do not have their next projects confirmed. With so many rumors circulating these studios over the past year or so, it’s a little odd that they didn’t show up at the showcase. Even if these studios only had a CG trailer to show, it’s odd that PlayStation wouldn’t want to show just that, as that didn’t seem to stop it from showingMarathon,Fairgames, orConcord.
The recent PlayStation Showcase also had some noticeable absences from franchises that fans were pretty sure they would see. The most noticeable absence wasThe Last of Us Multiplayer, a game that was first announced almost a whole year ago, and one that fans thought would make a definite appearance at the PlayStation Showcase. While Neil Druckmann did state that fans wouldsee more fromThe Last of Us Multiplayerby the end of the year, and there’s plenty of time left for that to be true with it potentially showing up at Summer Games Fest or the Game Awards at the very latest, it’s odd thatPlayStationdidn’t use this opportunity to focus on the project.
