In just over three weeks time,The Game Awards 2019will descend upon Los Angeles and honor some of the year’s best video games, content creators, and esports personalities. An annual awards ceremony hosted by games journalistGeoff Keighley, The Game Awards have become quite an event, and fans tune in from across the globe to enjoy the festivities and see who will go home a winner. However, before there can be winners there must be nominees, and a full list of 2019 Game Awards nominees is now available for fans to peruse.

Coming out on top this year is Hideo Kojima’s recently-releasedDeath Stranding, which has received nine nominations, including Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, and Best Art Direction. WhileDeath Strandingreviewshave been decidedly mixed, many players have found a lot to love in this unique title, and time will tell if that affection translates into awards for Kojima Productions and Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Trailing just behindDeath Strandingis Remedy’sControlwith eight nominations that range from Game of the Year to Best Performance. From there, titles likeSekiro: Shadows Die Twice, with five nominations, andResident Evil 2andThe Outer Worlds, each with four nominations, round out the top spots. Without question, these three games were met with adoration upon their releases, and all of them certainly have a chance of walking away withThe Game Awards' coveted Game of the Year title next month.

This is, of course, just scratching the surface of the Game Awards 2019 nominations, and interested fans can view the full list below. Unfortunately, not every nominee on this list will be able to walk away from the show a winner, but the caliber of these nominations do make one thing perfectly clear: 2019 was a great year for video games.
