Anyone who tuned into theHuluminiseriesThe Dropoutcould clearly see how much the role of Elizabeth Holmes meant to Amanda Seyfried. So, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Seyfried would desire to play Holmes again in the near future.
By mimicking both Holmes' mannerisms and fake voice while copying both her hairstyle and fashion choice, it was clear that Seyfried took the role to heart when playing the infamous Theranos con artist. Recently, Seyfried dove into what it was like to portray the charming but enigmatic Holmes in theHuluminiseries

Seyfried clearly embraced playing Holmes enough that she wouldn’t mind returning to play her again sometime down the line. “It just seemed like this was the best opportunity I’d ever been given, to play such an enigmatic role,” Seyfried said during an interview with Vanity Fair. “And, obviously, it was really scary too." Even though, as of now, there have been no plans for a second season of the show,Seyfried believes because she truly captured Holmesand would love to re-visit playing her again if the show is renewed for another season. “When am I going to get the opportunity to play somebody that I felt like I could really nail?… It would be another thrill of my life if I got to continue it a little bit.”
The one hangup regarding a potential second season is that Seyfried’s portrayal of Holmes won’t be the only one not too long from now.Jennifer Lawrence has also been castas Holmes for an upcoming movie titledBad Bloodthat will also detail Holmes' rise and fall with Theranos. Audiences may at first be confused as to how this movie is going to tackle both Holmes and Theranos whenThe Dropoutalready covered that, but considering that Hollywood produced two biopics about Steve Jobs in a two-year span that definitely had different approaches to his story, don’t put it past them have a different spin on Holmes or the Theranos' scandal.
So, let’s say a second season of the series hypothetically gets greenlit. Where exactly would the show go from there? They covered a lot of ground with Holmes and Theranos' formation/dissolving because they had the runtime to do so. They could go into more detail about Holmes' criminal trial once Theranos' crimes were brought to light because that was the one part about Holmes and Theranos thatThe Dropoutmore or less skimmed over. There could be enough material for a movie - maybe that’s whatBad Bloodwill be about - but for a miniseries, that might be hard to pull off.
While Seyfried’s desire to play Holmes again is understandable, it might be in everyone’s best interest toleaveThe Dropoutwhere it is for now. The show more or less captured Holmes' rise and fall as Theranos' CEO and the impact she left both on the BioTech industry and Silicon Valley. Not to mention the people she hurt in the process. Although Holmes' story will grab people’s attention for years to come, audiences should remember that she’s one of the biggest frauds whose name deserves to be put with the likes of Bernie Madoff and Charles Ponzi.
