7Onimusha 3: Demon Siege
It’s shame that more people don’t talk about theOnimushaseries, which is a pretty fun action-adventure franchise that was absolutely flourishing back in the day. The games were pretty similar to theResident Evilseries but focused more on the action, with the combination of Japanese history and supernatural elements being a blast.
The third game modernized the controls of the series quite a bit and made it one of the most approachable titles in the series. Slashing and dicing through enemies was a blast inOnimusha 3: Demon Siege, with many players considering it to be the best game in the series.
6God Hand
God Handis a game that was bashed by critics upon launch and never really saw the success it deserved. It’s a shame, really, since this game is one of the craziest action titles anyone can check out.
God Handis an extremely challenging game that ramped up the difficulty as players improved. Of course, this was a double-edged sword at times, but most people didn’t mind since the action combat was a blast while the game’s story was so ridiculous that it added to the fun factor in its own special way.
5Viewtiful Joe
Viewtiful Joeisa beautiful action game on the PS2that has aged pretty well, courtesy of its cel-shaded art style. The game’s unique setting coupled with some great beat-em-up gameplay made for a great time across the first two titles.
It’s a shame that the series has lain dormant for quite some time since many players loved wrecking enemies and using their VFX powers to good effect. Fans looking for a great side-scrolling action title can still have a great time with the first twoViewtiful Joegames.
4Resident Evil – Code: Veronica
TheResident Evilseries was churning out hit after hit after its successful launch on the PlayStation, and the sixth generation of gaming also received its fair share of gems.A great addition here wasResident Evil – Code: Veronica, which fleshed out the lore of the series quite a bit.
The oppressive atmosphere of this game really makes its scares pop out. This, coupled with the scintillating survival horror game everyone expects from the series, led to a game that is still held in high regard to this day.

Okamiis a game that deserved way more time in the spotlight than it ended up getting. The game’s unique art style and setting made it a truly one-of-a-kind experience, and the title still feels fresh and engaging to this day.

The game wasn’t apologetic about its toughness, and players had to really come to grips with the combat system to even stand a chance against the many tough enemies and bosses in their way. There’s a reason why the sequel is hated by many fans: it tried to make the experience more casual and trivialized the combat in the process.
1Resident Evil 4
With the upcoming remake ofResident Evil 4, it’s clear that Capcom needs to knock it out of the park to justify this remake to the fans. After all,Resident Evil 4is considered to be one of the greatest action-adventure games of all time.
The adventures of Leon Kennedy marked a shift in the tone of the series, for better or for worse. It’s clear that the people working on the remake have their work cut out for them, and only time will tell if their efforts did justice to the original game.
