This makes the young boy realize that he may have come across a superhero known as Samaritan, who went missing 25 years ago. However, Stallone insists that Samaritan is dead and that he’s merely a garbageman. He seems almost convincing until he’s hit by a speeding car and survives fully intact. TheSamaritantrailer continues with Stallone explaining to this young boy that “things start to fall apart when you stop caring” and he says that he stopped caring a long time ago. However, he may be forced out of retirement when he becomes the target of a vicious criminal named Cyrus (Pilou Asbæk) who’s convinced he’s hiding something. The rest of theSamaritantrailer features Stallone dispatching more thugs as well as using a car to shield himself and the boy from an explosion.

Directed by Julius Avery (Son of a Gun,Overlord)Samaritanis just the latest in a trend of dark and gritty deconstructionist superhero movies and TV shows. Prime Videohas been at the forefront of these types of stories for a while now. Theiracclaimed seriesThe Boysjust wrapped its third season, and the streaming service also houses an animated adaptation ofInvincible.Samaritanalso bares a lot of similarities to the 2008 filmHancock, which starred actor Will Smith as an unconventional superhero. LikeSamaritan,Smith’sHancockwas a hard-drinking apathetic superhero who was never very good at his job. While the film received mixed reviews, it was an example of one of the first superhero movies that took a darker and more adult approach to the genre.

Despite his age, Stallone has shown no sign of slowing down. His recent film credits includeThe Suicide Squad, where he voiced King Shark, as well as thefirst twoCreedmoviesin which he reprised one of his most famous roles as boxer Rocky Balboa. Along withSamaritan,Stallone’s upcoming films includeThe Expendables 4andGuardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
