Earlier this summer,Sega announced what was believed to be a newSuper Monkey Ballgameafter years of inactivity in the once popular franchise. Or so everyone thought, but once the trailer was shown it was revealed to beSuper Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD, a remake of an older game in the series. Today, Sega released a new trailer for the game showing off its newest bonus character.
Sega’s most iconic blue buddy,Sonic the Hedgehog, is coming toSuper Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HDwhen it launches at the end of this month for $39.99. Sonic will be an unlockable hidden character that was not in the originalBananaBlitzbut is getting added to the HD edition. The trailer below gives some more information that can lead to some speculation that the inclusion of Sonic will be more than just a character skin.

In the trailer, we see Sonic flying throughMonkey Balllevels that look like they may be custom built for theSega Genesisposter boy. These levels appear to include all the staples of aSonicgame from speed boosts to rings (and the accompanying sound) to Sonic’s bubble shield. Now, they could just be reskinned versions of otherBanana Blitzlevels, but that seems unlikely.
Either way, Sonic fans should be excited. TheSuperMonkey Ballfranchise seems like a great fit for Sonic, with its balance of extreme speed and tricky platforming. The trailer also confirms that brand new costumes will be added toBanana Blitz HDthat were not included in the original release.
It is a big day for Sonic news. Fans of the hedgehog and his friends will be delighted to learn thata new redesign for Sonic in the upcoming movie has leaked. Following controversy over the trailer that was released earlier this year, theSonic the Hedgehogmovie was delayed, a decision which was credited to the additional work needed to redesign the character following fan backlash. Now, an image has leaked out that may or may not be a first look at the brand new design. However, it is equally as likely that these are fake fan images so take the news with a grain of salt.
