Now Nintendo has showcased the Invisibility Badge.Super Mario Wonder’s Invisibility Badgemakes the character equipped with it invisible to both the player and the surrounding enemies. This allows a player to hop on top of an unsuspecting enemy and even sneak past them. This is demonstrated with a clip showing Daisy jumping on top of an enemy’s shell and then picking up a pot, followed by tossing it at them.
This badge should make for agood challenge run inSuper Mario Bros. Wonder, not only for stealth-focused runs, but also because how its feature is also one of its biggest downsides: the fact the player can’t see where their character is without external clues. Dust clouds being kicked up when landing or how the screen scrolls are the best ways to figure out where the player is when the Invisibility Badge is equipped. Considering there are already tons of challenges like deathless and coinless runs, an invisible-only run should be a fun thing to spectate and try out, especially for the speedrunning community.
A number of other badges have also been revealed, with more that have yet to be showcased. Some of the badges even take cues from character traits of the past, such as the Parachute Cap being reminiscent ofPeach’s floating ability fromSuper Mario Bros. 2andSuper Paper Mario. These unique abilities provided by the badges should allow for some ambitious experimentation from players.
Super Mario Bros. Wonderlaunches on October 20, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
