There’s been a lot of talk lately aboutSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, with most of the focus on theBowser’s Furypart of the game. This makes sense, asBowser’s Furyis a brand new adventure, featuring an open world game design, new power-ups, and more, whereas3D Worldis a Wii U port. However, theSuper Mario 3D Worldpart of the game is getting some love, too, with the Switch re-release making various improvements on the classic Wii U game.

One of these improvements will be apparent to those playingSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Furyin co-op. As some may recall,Super Mario 3D Worldfeatures bonus levels starring Captain Toad, which are little diorama puzzles that players need to solve to get Green Stars. In the original version ofSuper Mario 3D World, theCaptain Toad bonus levelswere single-player only, but that’s changed in the new version of the game.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Furyon the Switch makes it possible to play the Captain Toad bonus levels in co-op with up to three other players. One player controlsCaptain Toad himself, while the other players control other members of the brigade. Nintendo found a lot of success when itadded co-op toCaptain Toad: Treasure Trackerfor its Switch re-release, and so it makes sense that it’s doing it again for the Captain Toad levels inSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.

Fans can now see how the Captain Toad levels inSuper Mario 3D Worldplay out in co-op, thanks to a new clip shared by Nintendo of Europe. As can be seen in the clip, the levels will likely play out the same as they did in the original release, but now other players will be able to help instead of having to sit around and wait for the game to get back to a more traditional level.

Super Mario 3D World’s expanded co-op optionswill apply to the Captain Toad levels as well, which means fans will be able to play them not just in local co-op, but in online co-op as well. The originalSuper Mario 3D Worldgame lacked any kind of online co-op functionality, but the re-release has added it for the entire game. This should be especially helpful since the world is continuing to grapple with the coronavirus pandemic and it’s even more difficult to get people together to play video games.
