Life is hard in Cydonia. Mars is inhospitable, mining is a thankless job, and the boss is a nepotism hire who does nothing useful. At least that’s how it is for the Deimos miners inStarfield.

Players can hear about these miner’s woes from the guards as they travel through Cydonia, one of the two major settlements in the United Colonies. To start thisStarfieldside mission, jump or walk down to the mining level of central Cydonia and look for the foreman, Trevor Petyarre. Trevor is standing next to a busted transport and holding a clipboard, so he’s easy to spot even without an objective marker to point him out.

How to Start Red Tape Blues

Even if players don’t hear about Trevor’s problem from the guards, they can walk up to him and ask him for work. He doesn’t need any new miners, but he does need someone to help him replace the ancient equipment he and his team have to use. The first thing players need to do is prove that the Deimos miners can do more work by mining 10 iron from the surrounding stone.

Players need a cutter to get the iron, and it worksjust like any mineral deposit on planets and in caves. There are plenty of iron deposits in Cydonia, and they’re all on the dirt and rock piles nearby. Once players have 10 iron in their inventory, they can place it in the deposit bin across from Trevor and speak to him again.

However, sometimes no iron spawns in Cydonia, or players may have recently mined the deposits before starting “Red Tape Blues.” Fortunately, players can get the iron for this mission anywhere. They can buy iron from UC Distribution, which has an office on the same level as the Trade Authority. If all else fails, players can bring iron in from elsewhere or find iron deposits on Luna.

How to Become an Executive Assistant

The next step to Trevor’s plan is to get the request for new equipment approved by his corporate boss, Peter Brennan. However, Peter can’t do anything without an assistant, and his assistants keep quitting. Lucky for Trevor, this means there’s an opening that players can fill. As an executive assistant, players can approve the request without Peter knowing or caring.

To apply for this job, players must visit the Deimos Staryard. This staryard is in orbit next to Deimos, the smaller of Mars' two moons, and players can reach it by traveling to Deimos or selecting the staryard icon from the system view. The staryardcan fit player ships with Deimos partsif they speak to the right person, but for this mission head for the Deimos Sales Computer next to the mission board and select “Job Posting: Executive Assistant.”

The job listing on the sales computer will ask players several questions about job experience and proper behavior. Each question has a correct answer, but even if players get everything wrong this mission chain can continue. In any case, the next step is to head back down to Trevor.

The next step of Trevor’s plan involves sneaking into the HR computer up in the corporate office of Deimos Mining. This office is on its own, overlooking the mining operation from the southwest. Trevor gives players the password (drowssap), so head over to the Deimos HR Computer and log in.

At this point, players can either read through each application and delete them one by one, or they can scroll to the bottom and choose “Delete All Other Candidate Applications.” This is also where players can see how well they did on the questionnaire: the “Assessment” section changes depending on their answers.

Return to Trevor one more time to hear the good news: the ruse worked. The next mission in the chain starts now, “Red Tape Runaround,” and players get 100 XPand a large credit rewardthat changes based on level.
