2022 is turning out to be a stellar year forStar Warsas fans have been treated to a slew of new and upcoming content ranging from TV series to the slate of video games currently in production. Among these, the remake of the originalStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republichas been one of the most expected from fans. A recent announcement suggests that moreKnights of the Old Republicupdates are on the way.
While the originalKnights of the Old Republicwas developed by Bioware, the daunting task of remaking the popular title falls under the responsibility ofAspyr Media. Although the Embracer-owned studio may not hold the same reputation and familiarity as other massive game companies, Aspyr comes with years of experience working on theStar Warsfranchise. The studio has brought games likeStar Wars: Episode I – Racer, Star Wars: Republic Commando,and bothStar Wars Jedi Knighttitles to modern systems. Though theKnights of the Old Republicremake may be one of its most ambitious projects yet.

Fans first got a glimpse of what to expect atSony’s September 2021 showcase, where a teaser trailer for the game was released. Now, according to the Embracer Group, more updates for the game are due to arrive “in the next several months.” The announcement was made during the Embracer Group Q4 report. Further, board member and Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch stated that his company will be assisting with Aspyr’s development efforts citing the scope of theKnights of the Old Republicremake.
Though no concrete timeline has been shared on when fans can expect more updates, “several months” could mean that Aspyr may share details at June’s Summer Game Fest or at arumored PlayStation event. A few months ago, it was even rumored that theKnights of the Old Republicremake could make its release sometime next year. But considering that the game is being reworked from scratch, that may be unlikely.
The remake of the hitStar Warstitle from 2003 has been one of the most requested from the fandom. Although, the update from Embracer Group would likely mean thathopes forKnights of the Old Republic 3may not happen anytime soon. Further, it will be interesting to see at what point the upcoming title will make its way to other platforms due to its PS5 and PC timed exclusivity deal. Regardless, it’s an exciting time to be a gamer and aStar Warsfan.
