May began withStar WarsDay, a celebration of all things in the multimedia franchise that included a bevy of announcements. Among the announcements made on May 31, 2025 was that the Oculus-exclusive VR gameVader Immortalis coming to PlayStation VR, but to cap off the month, its developer ILMxLAB has announced that a new title calledStar Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edgewill be launching on Oculus later this year.
Based on the live attraction from Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, this “action-adventure VR experience” will feature new and iconic characters, use multiple styles of gameplay, and have varying difficulty settings according to ILMxLAB’s announcement today. It will be set on the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu, and ILMxLAB’s Executive-in-Charge Vicki Dobbs Beck promises a “connected and complimentary” experience that will build lore betweenThe Last JediandThe Rise of Skywalker.

According to Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Executive Scott Trowbridge, this experience will give fans the chance to “discover new stories” through characters and places on Batuu that will ultimately allow “guests” to “immerse themselves … both inside and outside our parks.” It certainly sounds like an interesting prospect forStar Warsfans, particularly with theme parks closed due to coronavirus concerns, but not much is said as to when the game will be available.
Though games likeVader Immortalhave proven the viability ofStar WarsVR titles, especially through ILMxLAB, there are plenty of other things in development for the immensely popular universe.Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderwill spawn a whole franchisefor EA following the first game’s success last year, for example.
At the same time, despite its controversial first impression, EA’sStar Wars: Battlefront 2continues to see play as a first-person shooter tying together many aspects of the movies. After it was announced that the game would be ending its ongoing development, over 50,000Battlefront 2players signed a petitionto keep it alive with paid DLC.
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has affected someStar Warsgames as well, though its impact can be most clearly seen with the shut down of parks that serve as the inspiration forTales from the Galaxy’s Edge. Switch and PS4ports ofStar Wars: Episode 1 Racerhave been delayeddue to complications with working from home, and time will tell whether this new VR title suffers the same fate.
