In a recent trademark filing, Sony has applied to renew theBest of PlayStation Networkname after years of being inactive. Since the PlayStation 3 never saw Volume 2 come to fruition, players may feel it is unusual to see such activity with the name. It is, however, common practice for companies to renew trademarks to protect their products. In 2022,Microsoft renewed the trademarks forBlast Corps, which eventually saw a release on the Nintendo Switch Online N64 Expansion Pass.

Games Included in The Best of PSN Volume 1

It has to be stated that the trademark filing for theBest of PlayStation Networkmay not result in any physical compilation, as Sony could just be renewing the brand name to stop other companies from using the name. The Japanese company is often seen re-registering older IPs, along with new ideas. Most recently,Sony has filed a patent for a Holographic Displaythat could be implemented into the PlayStation ecosystem.

Gamers may have to wait to learn if Sony is bringing back theBest of PlayStation Networkcompilation series. For now, the Japanese company is focusing on providing games through thePlayStation Plus service which sees new games added monthly. For March 2024, the Extra tier added games includingBlood Bowl 3,LEGO DC Supervillains, andMarvel’s Midnight Suns. The Premium tier further added retro titles includingCool Boarders, Gods Eater Burst, andJak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier.

Time will tell if Sony decides to bring back theBest of PlayStation Networkcollections. Thanks to the PS5 having access to the majority of PS4 titles, the PlayStation Store has over 10 years of games available to players. Withthe library of games on the PlayStation ever-growing, it could be a sign that Sony is looking to highlight some of the smaller games that are available on its platform by revitalizing theBest of PlayStation Networkseries.
