In January 2022, Microsoft dropped a bombshell on the gaming industry by announcing its plans to acquireActivision Blizzard for a whopping $68.7 billion. Microsoft also revealed that it is expecting the deal to go through sometime in 2023, and during this time, Activision Blizzard will continue to function as usual. Since the announcement of this deal, Sony has been working diligently to persuade investigating regulators that the deal should not go ahead.

With the deal entering its final stages, it appears that Sony has also stepped up its game - and this time, it has draggedCall of DutyandBattlefieldinto the mix. Sony believes that after buying Activision Blizzard, Microsoft will makeCall of DutyXbox exclusive, which could ultimately destroy Sony’s fan base. Sony pointed out thatBattlefield’spublisher, EA, has beentrying to compete withCall of Dutyfor yearswithout ever coming close to achieving the same level of success.

Sony further pointed out thatCall of Dutyis currently unmatched by any other game on the market– and that’s because no other publisher has the same level of resources and expertise as Activision-Blizzard. WhileMicrosoft has stated that it has no plans to makeCall of Dutyexclusive to Xbox and PC, Sony doesn’t appear to be buying it. In fact, it appears that Sony is prepared to fight tooth and nail to keep the popular shooter franchise on PlayStation consoles.

There have been a lot of shots fired between Sony and Microsoft during this acquisition process, and it looks like Sony is just trying to make things as difficult as possible for Microsoft. In its latest filings,Sony repeats a lot of the same arguments and claims players have heard before, and it’s clear that the company is just trying to stall and delay the process as much as possible. Sony’s decision to publicly badmouthBattlefieldcame as a disappointment to many of the game’s fans. On the other hand, just a few days ago, Microsoft made headlines for agreeing that PlayStation exclusives are of better quality than those of Xbox.
