A Modern axe is a versatile tool inSons of the Forestthat can be used to gather materials or for demolition. Players can also use it to fight against the stalking cannibals and mutants that have taken over the remote island. Most of the available equipment, tools, and weapons are hidden deep within the cave systems, but the journey to the Modern axe is simple.
Compared to the other two axes inSons of the Forest- the Tactile and the Fireman’s - the Modern axe is the most balanced as far as offense, speed, and defense go. Luckily, those who want to extend their melee arsenal can pick it up as soon as they recover from the helicopter crash and can explore the island using this guide.

Modern Axe Location in Sons of the Forest
The Modern axe is on the island’s northwest side. For those trying to get it from their spawn point, it is located almost in the middle of them, but the mountain spawn location is the closest. For help finding it, players can look for one of thepurple GPS locator markerson the map nearby.
The correct GPS locator is furthest into the forest and where players can find the flashlight. The Modern axe is at an abandoned campsite west of the flashlight. Players will know they are close if they hear the music from the camp’s radio. It is in the lap of a fallen soldier sitting against one of the tents.
There are also multiple C2 bricks, grenades, meal packs, meds, and other supplies in the crates around the camp. If they bust open the radio, they can grab the circuit board, which can be usedto craft time bombs. Players should try not to linger too long because there are cannibal camps north and south of the campsite, which can be a hotspot for attention.
How to Use the Modern Axe
Players have access to the Tactical axe when they open their emergency pack, but when they get the Modern axe, theycan upgrade their go-to’s. To access the Modern axe, open the inventory by clicking “I” and equipping it. Players can also add it to their backpacks for faster access. The developers also added hotkeys that can be assigned to pull out certain weapons or tools.
The Modern axe is slower than the Tactical but fasterthan the Fireman’s axe. Of course, this extra means it does not deal as much damage, but it is an excellent middle-ground axe as a weapon.
Although melee is not always the best way to deal with the cannibals, players can decapitate them with one solid swipe of the Modern axe if they hit the correct place. If using it to cut down trees, aim it at the spot that needs to but cut and hit it repeatedly around the chopped area to farm logs.
