Update: Players have caught that over half of these glitchy videos were made in an experimental Nintendo Switch emulator in order to hurt the game’s reputation, and most of the videos have been deleted since. Fans are to stay cautious, however, as some glitches are still present. Players have figured out the cause of some of the more game-breaking glitches, though, and have reported them to SEGA, meaning patches will fix these errors shortly.

Players who had the old release longed to play the title again, and gamers who never owned a Wii could finally experience it. Unfortunately, for the Nintendo-basedSonicgamers, they may need to wait for a fair set of patches before purchasing. Early access players have revealed that the Nintendo Switch version is incredibly unstable.
Things didn’t look good for the Switch version ofSonic Colors: Ultimatefor some time, as a trailer going over the changes to the game ended up revealing that the game would only run at 30 frames per second, whereas the other versions ran at 60 fps and offered 4K support. Some fans looking forward to buyingSonic’slatest release on Switch saw this as a red flag, and it seemed that was a good call to make in the end.

Those who purchased the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game not only got a bunch of in-game goodies and cosmetics, but also got the game early on September 3, and those who decided to get iton Switchwere greeted with seizure-inducing glitches, entire screens of textures not registering properly, and even corrupted saves. Some of those withSonic Colors: Ultimatehave put the game down for a break to be unable to open the game again due to an error. The more egregious videos of these glitches run an epileptic risk for some fans, but they can be easily found on social media for those curious.
Fans are notably upset, as one of the most favoredNintendo-exclusiveSonictitleshas been made into the worst in what would have been a great way to bring this game to a new audience. In wondering just what went wrong with such a promising re-release, some players have made a note that this was Blind Squirrel Entertainment’s first Switch remaster.
With that in mind, gamers are turning their ire towards SEGA, as it could be a case of the company bringing on a studio ill-prepared fora Switch releasewhile pushing it towards doing it anyway. What exactly happened isn’t clear, and may not ever be officially stated, so it’s important to note that this is speculation. Thankfully, many of the glitches are merely cosmetic and could be patched out over time. For those not willing to wait for any fixes, Nintendo’s aware of the situation and will give refunds for the title if fans ask.
