Season 13 ofApex Legends, known as Saviors, has already been out for over a month. And while fans of the battle royale have enjoyed many aspects of the new season, such as thelatest Legend Newcastle, there are some areas of the game that players want to see changed. Specifically, someApex Legendsplayers are unhappy with the matchmaking for Ranked in Season 13.
At the start of the new season, the developers at Respawn Entertainment implemented a series of changes for theRanked system inApex Legendsthat placed more of an emphasis on placement compared to early game kills. Called Ranked Reloaded, it also introduced tier demotions for lower-level ranks such as Gold and Silver. However, these changes have not come without controversy, and some claim that they are being matched against unequally skilled opponents.

Recently, a gamer known as Pwn_sauce shared a clip from their recent time playingApex Legends. In this video, the player recorded an encounter that their squad had with a team composed of Apex Predators that also happened to be professional players. The names of these pros were Mark “Dropped” Thees, Joseph “Frexs” Sanchez, and Ryan “Reptar” Boyd. By posting the clip, Pwn_sauce hoped to show that the matchmaking system for the game could use some work.
The action took place at the new POI on Storm Point, known asDowned Beast. The clip started from the perspective of Dropped, who is also a Twitch streamer, as he effortlessly eliminated everyone on Pwn_sauce’s team with the help of his professional teammates. Following Pwn_sauce’s unfortunate encounter with the pro team, the clip captured the perspective of the Reddit user, revealing they were Platinum 4. According to the player, their friend was only ranked in Gold.
This clip illustrates a concern that many lower-ranked players have regarding Ranked as it suggests that the matchmaking system for the battle royale could theoretically place any Gold or Platinum squad against teams of Apex Predators. Unsurprisingly, a number ofgamers on theApex Legendssubreddithave weighed in on the topic. With over 2,200 upvotes in only a couple of days, many seem to agree with the Reddit user’s concerns.
It will be interesting to see how the developers at Respawn Entertainment address this issue in the coming days. While there appear to be those on both sides of the debate regarding the new Ranked changes, these matchmaking problems seem to be a more immediate concern as they risk making games unfair for players by placing them in lobbies of disproportionate skill levels. Hopefully, a solution can be found so that pro players and lower-level players alike can be placed in lobbies that are best suited for them, creating more exciting gameplay in the process.
