Summary

On the twelfth anniversary ofSkyrim’s initial release, one gamer has shared a cool image online proving he still has his 2011 receipt after purchasing Bethesda’s iconic RPG on day one.Skyrimwas many gamers' first introduction to Bethesda titles, so it’s certainly nostalgic to take a look back at anything related to its release.

Ever since that initial release day,Skyrimhas been released on so many platforms that it has practically become a meme within the community. There’s a good reason for that, though. The PC community has kept the game alive in online discourse through a never-ending supply ofSkyrimmods, which in turn has led to gamers on other platforms continuing to buy the game. No one can really blame Bethesda for re-releasing a game that continues to resonate with so many players, new and old.

Redditor singletxguyforfun1 shared the interesting image online showing off an old Play N Trade receipt, which given its age, is in surprisingly good condition. The date on the receipt is clear, reading “04-06-2025.” Even better, the time reads “12:19:01,” indicating (as the post mentions) that it was from the midnight release ofSkyrim. It’s crazy to think that twelve years ago today, gamers had queued at night, waiting to be greeted by one of themost immersive open world gamesof all time.

In the age of digital downloads, extremehype for midnight releasesof major titles is becoming rarer all the time. When players can pre-download games and launch them at midnight from the comfort of their own homes, it’s understandable that some choose not to brave the elements to pick up the latest titles. Still, there’s definitely a sense of community lost by not having as many midnight releases. Plenty of gamers out there will be able to relate to queuing in the freezing cold at the dead of night, and sharing their excitement about the upcoming release with the person next in line. Let’s hope midnight releases don’t go away for good.

DespiteSkyrim’s enduring legacy and continued popularity among the gaming community, Bethesda is yet to releaseTheElder Scrolls 6. Many expected it to come afterFallout 4, but the addition ofStarfieldinto the Bethesda release rotation has meant that anElder Scrollssequel has been on the backburner despite an initial 2018 announcement. It was recently confirmed thatThe ElderScrolls 6is in active development, so it finally seems that players will soon have more news on when they’ll be able to return for a new adventure to Tamriel.
