The Falcon and The Winter Soldierstar Sebastian Stan enjoys playing Bucky Barnes. However, in a recent interview, the actor made it clear that he has no idea just how much longer Barnes, otherwise known as theWinter Soldier is going to be part of the MCU.
As has been the case with other Disney+ series,The Falcon and The Winter Soldierserve two purposes. The first is that it brings more superhero content to the streaming platform. Secondly, the shows are expected to lead into the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Those who watched the limited series are likely expecting The Falcon to take on the mantle of Captain America in an upcoming film, but Stan isn’t sure whether Bucky will join him, or appear in other films or series.

Talking toVariety, Stan said that he’s ready to play Bucky for the long haul. However, when he was asked how long that might be, he made it clear it’s not up to himhow long he sticks around the MCU. The actor said that as long as they keep calling, he’ll continue playing the part. However, he added that like “everyone else in the world” he gets old. He added he has no idea whether aging is going to play a part in how long he can stay playing Bucky.
Later in the interview, Stan was asked whether or not he’d bewilling to play Bucky Barnesuntil he was in his 80’s. He then doubled down on his claims that he’ll stick around as long as Marvel will have him.
Stan added that when someone plays a character for as long as he’s been Bucky, it’s hard to stop playing that part. He added that for him, Bucky has become like a kind of brother. While Stan is growing up and maturing, he feels like Bucky is also growing and changing as well.
It’s not yet clear what Marvel’s plans for Bucky is just yet. In fact, it’s not entirely clear what the plans for The Falcon/Captain America are yet either. It’s expected that Sam Wilson will make an appearance in another solo film, but he could also be part of another ensemble cast. For now, the most concrete plans for the MCU moving forward is the addition ofWandaVisionstar Elizabeth Olsen into the next Doctor Strange movie,In The Multiverse of Madness. Beyond that, MCU fans are waiting on more announcements regardingThe Falcon and The Winter Soldierstars.
