The trailer gives players a look at a new addition toSea of Thieves, Adventures. These events will be story driven live events with an overarching narrative that will forever change the in-game world. This is the first step towardstelling stories through live service forSea of Thieves. Players will be getting one Adventure a month which will typically last around 2 weeks. These events will aim to immerse players more in the world and have them form attachments with the characters that they cross paths with. Lore trailers will also be added to enhance storytelling aspects of Adventures. The actions and choices of the community will determine the ending of each story, and these endings will alter the world ofSea of Thievesforever.Shrouded Islands will be coming out on February 17th.
The addition of Adventures is part of what Xbox promises to bean exciting year forSea of Thieves. The game is going strong 4 years after release. The concept of interactive storytelling in a live-service game is certainly an interesting one, and will likely be a success ifSea of Thievescan pull it off.
That being said, players will have to wait untilShrouded Islandsis released to decide for themselves how well the cinematic storytelling is executed. They will then have to wait until the conclusion of an overarching story to decide whether Rare has come good on its claim that the actions and choices of the players have an impact on how a story is resolved. If history has taught us anything with this game, it’s thatXbox will stick withSea of Thievesthrough thick and thin, so even ifShrouded Islandsisn’t received as well as hoped, it’s likely that Rare will stick with until it churns out something worthwhile.
Sea of Thievesis available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
