The upcomingSaints Rowreboot is only a week away, giving fans a new, zany adventure to explore in the long-dormant series. With Volition and Deep Silver at the head of the reboot and looking to go in a different direction story-wise this time around, a new story trailer has just been released, giving players a deeper look into the criminal tale the game will drop players in when they load upSaints Row.

Despite there only being four entries and a standalone title, theSaints Rowseries has had a storied history in gaming. Starting off as aGrand Theft Autoclone, the series evolved over time to become an over-the-top open-world adventure by the timeSaints Row: The ThirdandSaints Row IVwere released, giving players superpowers and throwing in aliens for good measure. With the series becoming so massive in scope, a reboot seemed to be theonly option for Deep Silver, withSaints Rowlooking to focus on a more grounded approach to criminal empire building.

The newest trailer focuses on going back to the basics as the new ensemble of protagonists looks to start from the bottom of the criminal underworld with aspirations of reaching peak criminal enterprise. Despitefellow gang member Kevinsharing his fears on the topic, creativity is the name of the game this time around, as growing a criminal empire doesn’t come solely from robbing banks. In order to stand out, the gang must become their own boss and react accordingly to the obstacles that stand in their way with the trailer highlighting the many foes players will encounter.

Aside from presenting a more serious tone in contrast to what past entries have displayed, the trailer also focuses on the standard action theSaints Rowgames have been known for. Explosions galore, insane finishing moves, progressively upgrading to better equipment and weaponry, the Saints gang will need everything they can get as they look to face off against some of thetoughest gangs in Saint Ileso, such as the Idols or Los Panteros.

While the newest story trailer doesn’t show that much new information, it is nice to see Deep Silver’s commitment to taking a realistic approach to the reboot’s story. Withpreviews forSaints Rowlooking good so far, it’ll only be a matter of time until gamers get to test the story for themselves as they hope this can spark new life into the criminal action-adventure simulator.
