Warner Bros. and DC’sGreen Lanternis infamously known as one of the most critically panned superhero films ever released. However, lead star Ryan Reynolds has managed to find the humor in the film’s failure over the years. Now, Reynolds has taken to social media to roastGreen Lanternwith a new cut of the notorious film.

Released in 2011,Green Lanternmarked Warner Bros. and DC’s first attempt at bringing the Emerald Knight to the big screen in a live-action feature film. Unfortunately for fans of the character, the lambasted film failed to perform well at the box office and the financial losses effectively ended any plans for sequels.

Over the years, Reynolds has not withheld his true feeling towardsGreen Lanternand evenadvised fans against renting the film on Apple TVearlier this year. Now, the self-deprecating actor has posted a video of what he calls the ‘Reynolds Cut’ ofGreen Lantern, which he says contains some “judicious cuts” to make the film as great as possible. The cuts reduce the original film’s running time of 2 hours and 3 minutes down to a smooth 27 seconds. Despite this drastic reduction, the Reynolds Cut still manages to deliver as much depth and viewer satisfaction as the original. Perhaps even a tiny bit more.

Reynolds' most recent dig atGreen Lanternis likely a reference to the famous ‘Snyder Cut’ ofJustice League,a rumored alternate version of the superhero team-up film that some fans believe Zack Snyder intended to release before a family tragedy led to him leaving the project during the post-production phase. Following Zack Snyder’s exit from the film,AvengersdirectorJoss Whedon was brought on boardto retoolJustice Leaguefor the theatrical version, which opened to mixed reviews and underperformed at the box office. In the years following the theatrical release ofJustice League, fans called on Warner Bros. to release Zack Snyder’s original cut of the film in a campaign that culminated with HBO Max announcingan alternate version of the film will be releasedon the streaming service in 2021.

AlthoughGreen Lanternremains a sore spot for some fans, Reynolds' latest jab at the film may provide the closest thing to seeing this incarnation of the Emerald Knight join forces with the Justice League, at least for the time being. After all, Warner Bros. and DC’s plans forThe Green Lantern Corpsfilm is expected to feature a completely new version of Hal Jordan alongside other members of the titular organization.

Of course,Green Lanternremains so notoriously bad that even supporters of Reynolds' version might think it best to start over with a fresh take on the character. Either way, at least the film has given Reynolds enough material to humor us for years to come.

Green Lanternis now available on DVD and Blu-Ray.
