Hogwarts Legacyis an open-world RPG that allows players to define their own legacy in the 19th-century wizarding world. As players can create their own character, choose their own house, and make decisions that determine the course of the story, there is plenty of potential for role-playing.

Whether players want to become the next Dark Lord or foster a menagerie of magical creatures, anything is possible inHogwarts Legacy. And as with any RPG, any role-play experience can be made all the more immersive with attention to detail and a cohesive story. Here are a few things players might want to keep in mind for their character’s story.

7Have A Character Arc

Characters don’t have to choose one path and stick to it. In fact, all the best characters undergo some sort of arc, whether that be one ofredemption like Severus Snapeor one of regression and temptation.

Instead of heading into the game with a clear plan for the character, consider allowing them to be shaped by the main plot and see what direction they go in. By going in blind with a malleable character who has flaws and qualities in equal abundance, players will find themselves engrossed in a realistic story of their own.

6Play As A Proper Hogwarts Student

Hogwarts Legacyis not a Hogwarts simulator game, but that doesn’t mean players can’t pretend it is. There are many ways players can go about making their time at Hogwarts as realistic as possible. The first is to verify they are wearing their school robes or at least some form of uniform when attending classes.

Players can also make sure they head totheir respective common roomand dorm each night before using the map menu to skip time and wait for morning, thus simulating sleep. When starting a new day, they could make their way to the nearest bathroom and even get a bite to eat in the common room.

5Helpful Hufflepuff

A lot of side quests and extra activities in open-world games are simply about helping others, and this is no different inHogwarts Legacy. For players looking to leave no stone unturned and help every single NPC in the game, perhaps role-playing as a helpful Hufflepuff could make for a more cohesive story.

Hufflepuffs are known for being kind, just, and selfless. Instead of being swayed by ancient magic and the prospect of power, their character would put the needs of others first, from recovering a lost astrolabe to helping fellow studentsuncover the secrets of Hogwarts.

4Create An Elaborate Backstory

One of the best ways to role-play, regardless of the game, is to create an elaborate backstory that can serve as the character’s backbone, and influence the decisions they make and the paths they take.

Think about how your character was raised, their relationship with their family, or if, like Harry and Tom Riddle, they grew up as an orphan, how that affected them. Growing up as the heir to a vast estate and noble title for example could make a character arrogant and more likely to strut around the castle in thelatest fashion from Gladrags Wizardwear.

3Save A Second Playthrough For Ravenclaw

Ravenclaws are known for their intelligence and intuition, so by mastering the game in a first playthrough, players could then create a character who gets sorted into Ravenclaw andproceeds to take the school by storm.

Displaying a natural affinity for magic, the like of which has never been seen, would fit in well with the story too as the main character can see and use rare ancient magic. This doesn’t have to be done with a Ravenclaw however, as wizards and witches from any house can take on the role of a super-competent prodigy.

2Play As A Real-life Magician

Real wizards and witches sadly don’t exist, but magicians do, and they werequite popular in the Victorian era. By choosing and researching one of the many magicians born in the 1870s or by playing as a made-up one, players could put forth a new theory on how their character made a name for themselves in the muggle world.

Masters of deception and sleight of hand weren’t the only magical people floating around in the 19th century. There were also cultists and self-proclaimed wizards or witches that players could role-play as.

1The Undercover Slytherin

As Harry found out in the first book, the sorting hat takes the student’s preference in mind when deciding their house, and this is exactly the kind of loophole an ambitious and resourceful Slytherin would take advantage of.

As the House of Slytherin comes with a reputation, fair or unfair, for producing dark witches and wizards, a true Slytherin with dreams of going beyond the stereotype could be devious enough to go undercover. Hidden among Gryffindors, Ravenclaws, or Hufflepuffs, they would be less likely to arouse suspicionon their way to mastering the Dark Arts. Along the way, they would be able to make false friendships and connections which would otherwise be inaccessible.
