New information about Capcom’s in-developmentResident Eviltitles has been shared by an increasingly reliable rumormonger. According to this new information, Capcom scrapped its plans forResident Evil 8as recently as mid-2019. Fans hoping for a newResident Evilsequel in addition to the current wave of remakes don’t have to worry, though. A new version ofResident Evil 8quickly went into development, but it’s going to be some ways off as a result.

Capcom rumormonger AestheticGamer shared the newResident Evilinformation via Twitter Tuesday morning. AestheticGamer has at least a partially reliable track record for Capcom andResident Evilnews. For instance, they confirmedResident Evil 3remake in March 2019, saying that it was closer than some might expect.Resident Evil 3remake has since been announced and confirmed for release on April 3. His insider information proved correct, lending his newResident Evil 8rumors credibility.

The canceled version ofResident Evil 8was said to be in development since late 2016 only to be canceled mid-2019. However, its development was paused in 2017 so that Capcom could focus onResident Evil 7’s DLC andResident Evil 2 Remake. It’s unclear why the project was canceled, but it did have a reasonable amount of development invested in it. The timing could indicate that Capcom was so pleased withResident Evil 2 Remake’s success that it decided to moveResident Evil 8in a similar direction.

A new version ofResident Evil 8is said to have started development, says AestheticGamer. He notes that this version, picking up after the last version’s cancellation, hasn’t even been in development for a year and so might be some time off. It may build off some of the previousResident Evil 8’s plans, which could hurry development, but Capcom’s focus on remakes could show there’s no rush at the company to getResident Evil 8finished, too.

AestheticGamer then lays out a surprisingly detailed outlook atCapcom’s future release plans. They say that, followingResident Evil 3’s release, Capcom won’t be putting out any furtherResident Evilremakes for “the next few years.” However, there are other Capcom classics being rebooted that are similar to theResident Evilreboots that are also being made in the newResident Evilengine. There is, also, anotherResident Evilgame that isn’t a remake orResident Evil 8that will launch in 2021.

If AestheticGamer’s leaks prove true, which isn’t a guarantee whatsoever, the next several years are going to be very exciting for Capcom fans.

Resident Evil 8has yet to be officially announced or confirmed by Capcom.
