ARed Dead Redemption 2player was delighted to find a particular horse breed in the game, but the random encounter ended in disaster. The accident could have happened to anyone, but it was a big disappointment for the player in question.
As one would expect from a western video game,Red Dead Redemption 2’s horses play a big role in the title. While it’s possible tofast travel inRed Dead Redemption 2, much of the game’s traversal is done on horseback. With varying breeds of horses, choosing a steed can make a big impact on how quickly and safely a player can get around, assuming they can actually secure the horse. Buying one isn’t all too difficult, but taming one is a different matter.

Red Dead Redemption 2player OldTurtleChilli shared their encounter with a Kentucky Saddler in the game with other players on the game’s subreddit. The horse caught their eye, and after spotting it,Arthur Morganquickly pivots to lasso the horse and cautiously approaches. The horse isn’t too happy about the situation, but Arthur manages to hop on its back and tries to soothe the bucking horse. Unfortunately, before they have a chance to fully tame it, the horse maneuvers towards a nearby cliff and careens off the edge, with Arthur barely managing to dismount in time to survive.
The video ends with OldTurtleChilli staring down at the now-dead horse at the bottom of the cliff, leaving them hand fellow fans cringing at the loss. Fellow players joked that the horse would rather die than be tamed, while some scolded the player for their actions leading to its death. Some pointed out that Kentucky Saddlers aren’t one ofRed Dead Redemption 2’s best horsebreeds, and they were surprised at the player’s excitement over spotting one. Securing another Kentucky Saddler shouldn’t be all too difficult for OldTurtleChilli, but it’s still sad seeing a horse die from an accident like this one.
Thankfully, getting a horse inRed Dead Redemption 2can be achieved without risky attempts to tame one. Buying a horse is a possibility, though sometimes horses are also rewarded for completing quests. That said, some players prefer to capture their own horses rather than spending the in-game cash for one. Those who prefer this method should consider this a cautionary reminder to consider one’s surroundings carefully before any attempts to steer or tame a wild horse.
Red Dead Redemption 2is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
