WithPokemon Sun and Moon, Game Freak and The Pokemon Company introduced the concept of regional variants to the main series games. Regional variants, for the uninitiated, are different versions of existing Pokemon, sporting new color schemes, types, and more. This concept carried on toPokemon Sword and Shield, and while no regional variants have been revealed for the new games so far, it’s expected thatPokemon Scarlet and Violetwill feature regional variants of their own.
Pokemonleaker Riddler Khu, who is generally considered to be one of the more reliablePokemonleakers there is, has teased thatPokemon Scarlet and Violetcould be introducing a regional variant for Generation 2 Pokemon Sudowoodo. Riddler Khu made this suggestion with a poll asking fans to pick between different Pokemon types, with the options being Rock, Grass, Any, and Puppy. They then shared a picture of Sudowoodo, implying that it could be getting a regional variant that makes it a Rock/Grass-type Pokemon or maybe simply a Grass-type since Sudowoodo is already a Rock-type.

The inclusion of “Any” as one of the poll options has also sparked interest in the community, as it would tie directly into the rumoredPokemon Scarlet and Violetgameplay gimmick. For the uninitiated, each new main seriesPokemongame tends to feature a gimmick that helps it stand apart from the other games in the series, and it’s believed thatPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s gameplay gimmick will allow players to change the types of Pokemon, potentially changing their appearance in the process. If these rumors are true, then Sudowoodo could theoretically be any type in the game, though fans should wait for more information before getting too excited.
It’s entirely possible thePokemon Scarlet and Violetrumors and leaksare inaccurate, and soPokemonfans should keep that in mind. While Riddler Khu has proven to be a reliable source of information in the past, it’s always best to wait for official info.
In the meantime, there has been some other evidence of Sudowoodo getting a regional variant. A couple of months ago, an image leaked online claiming to show a regional variant for Bonsly, making the Pokemon look like a cork.Bonsly evolves into Sudowoodoif it levels up while knowing the move Mimic, so if the Bonsly image is real, then it’s more evidence that the Sudowoodo regional variant is real as well. And while it may look convincing, fans should keep in mind that there are many fakePokemon Scarlet and Violetimages making the rounds online that look real but are actually fake.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violetwill launch on November 18, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
