This week’s Pokemon Presents introduced a host of new content to the franchises' current offerings.Pokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers benefited the most, as thePokemon Company announced The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, two 7-Star Tera Raids, andPokemon GOconnectivity. While the DLC and raids introduce new and returning Pokemon for players to acquire,Scarlet and Violet’sPokemon GOintegration proves to be the biggest dream come true for collectors. The Pokemon Company shared that the title’s postcards will allow players to collect different patterns of Vivillon, a butterfly-like Pokemon of which only one variant appeared in the base game.
Vivillon first appeared in Generation 6 of the Pokemon series and has grown in popularity due to its variety of regional wing patterns. InPokemon GO, these patterns correspond to player location, as the game takes place in AR, resulting in more than a dozen different Vivillon being catchable. InPokemon Scarlet and Violet, however, players only encounter Fancy Pattern Vivillon in-game, due to their region-specificity. When the Pokemon Company announced thatPokemon GOconnectivity will allow other patterns of Vivillon to be caught inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, it provided a big win to players hoping to expand their collection.

Pokemon GO Postcards Introduce Vivillon Patterns to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Vivillon was introduced toPokemon GOin 2022’s Winter Holiday event, adding a unique perk to the title’s Postcard feature. Players could pin postcards they received from friends into their Postcard Book. Postcards from players in a certain region filled a meter, leading to an encounter with Vivillon’s precursor Pokemon, Scatterbug. Once evolved, the Vivillon would exhibit a certain pattern, based on the postcard region Scatterbug’s encounter was connected to. This method allowed trainers to collect up to 18 different patterns for Vivillon inPokemon GO. Starting this week, the mechanic has now extended to the Pokemon’s presence inPokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Players are now able totransfer postcards fromPokemon GotoPokemon Scarlet and Violet, allowing for the collection of all 18 patterns in Paldea spawn locations. Once players connect theirPokemon GOaccount toPokemonScarlet and Violetvia the Mystery Gift portal, they can send one pinned postcard per day to their Switch. Depending on the region, a new pattern of Vivillon will appear in the Pokemon’s normal spawning locations. UnlikePokemon GO, each regional pattern requires only one corresponding postcard to be sent toScarlet and Violet.

Postcard Bonuses Are a Dream Come True for Pokemon Collectors
This week’s Pokemon Presents offered collectors plenty of new content, but few announcements were as significant asPokemon GOconnectivity withPokemon Scarlet and Violet. Fall and Winter 2023’sThe Hidden Treasure of Area Zero will feature the return of some fan-favorite Pokemon, and new Paradox Legendaries offer some incentive to collectors who have been playing Gen 9 since launch. However, Postcard integration is the most immediate and rewarding gift to die-hard fans, bringing 18 additional forms of a single fan-favorite Pokemon toScarlet and Violet’s Paldea region. This single addition, depending on players' postcard collections, adds a variety of tasks for new and veteran players in both titles, making the wait for Part 1 of the Area Zero DLC a little easier.
In a Pokemon Presents that proved underwhelming to many, the addition of Vivillon variants toPokemon Scarlet and Violetstands out as a major highlight. The integration ofPokemon GOpostcards creates a bridge between the franchises' two most -popular modern titles, and Vivillon may be just the beginning. The same process that brings Vivillon patterns toScarlet and Violetalso allows players tocatch and evolve Roaming Form Ghimmighoul inPokemon GO, proving that connectivity between the two titles can provide even bigger benefits in the future. Until the Pokemon Company shares more details, collectors have plenty on their plate, with new variants of Vivillon to transfer and catch every day through much of next month.
