Niantic has already laid out the details forPokemon GO’s Halloween season. Naturally, there will be heavy focus on Ghost and Dark type Pokemon, including but not limited to Gastly, Murkrow, and Duskull, with that last one to be the focus ofOctober’sPokemon GOCommunity Day. But now Niantic is teasing a brand-new addition to the game, one that still fits the spooky season.

On the officialPokemon GOTwitter account, Niantic posted a rather sinister looking image of a silhouette of a Pokemon emerging from the woods. It doesn’t name the Pokemon, obviously, with the caption only mentioning that mysterious chanting can be heard deep in the wild.

AnyPokemonexpert (or at least anyone who played theCrown TundraDLC forPokemon Sword & Shield) will recognize the silhouette as belonging to Slowking. Specifically, the Galarian form of Slowking which was introduced inPokémon Sword & Shield.

At first, it may seem random to introduce Galarian Slowking during this time as it is not a Ghost or Dark type, but instead dual Poison and Psychic (regular Slowking is Water and Psychic). However, it actually fits the Halloween season surprisingly well and this is because of its PokeDex entry.

InPokemonlore, Slowpoke evolves into a Slowking when another Pokemon, Shellder, bites down on its head. The venom from Shellder’s bite seeps into Slowpoke’s brain, granting it superior intelligence. In the Galar region, a different chemical reaction is triggered due to the Galarica Wreath (a unique item that can be fed to a Galarian Slowpoke to make it evolve).

The shell that forms not only covers most of Slowking’s face and takes on a darker coloration, but the Shellder becomes the more intelligent of the two and effectively takes control of Slowking’s body. Galarian Slowking have also been spotted gathering in groups to chant mysterious spells, although it’s unknown what exactly they’re saying.

The very concept of Galarian Slowking can be considered quite unnerving, especially when compared to the Galarian Slowbro. There, the shell forms on the Pokemon’s arm and acts as a stinger that can fire liquid poison. It’s still quite dangerous, but at least there is no mind control or creepy chanting involved. Some fans have even pointed out that Galarian Slowking is rather similar to the infected monsters seen inThe Last of Usgames.

It’s currently unknown when exactly Galarian Slowking will be added to the game. But fans can probably expect Niantic to share concrete details later in the month if it intends to have it coincide with Halloween.

Funnily enough, Galarian Slowbro has yet to be added, as well as most of the Pokemon introduced inPokemon Sword & Shield. Niantic has begun to slowly include them inPokemon GO, withMythical Pokemon Zarudecurrently still available until October 10th.

Pokemon GOis available on Android and iOS.
