Pokemon GOis a firmly established multiplayer scene by this point, and players are constantly looking to optimize their teams. With the recent release of Gibble, players are looking forthe best moveset for Garchomp, its final evolution.

Of course, the hunt for the perfect moveset is universal to every Pokemon inPokemon GO. One Pokemon made much stronger with correct move optimization is Gengar, one of the original Ghost-type Pokemon and a powerful choice, even today. Gengar is pretty versatile in what it can learn for a Ghost, but only a couple moves have the most power when used by it. Here’s the best moveset for Gengar inPokemon GOat this point.

Fast Move

Each Pokemon inPokemon GOlearns two moves for offense and two moves for defense. One move is fast and gains energy, while the other main move is much more powerful, but uses energy. When it comes to Gengar, one move in particular is best for its fast attack: Lick. As a Ghost-type move, Lick deals good damage, but deals even more damage when used by Gengar. It’s the kind of damage on a fast attack that could see a playerdefeating a tough boss like Giovanniwith relative ease.

There’s a catch though: Lick is an Elite TM. This means it’s only available in limited supply, and not always available, at that. Just likeGengar’s costume, not everyone can get their hands on it. As such, the second choice, as well as the choice for a defensive fast move, is Hex. It’s not as powerful as Lick, but more readily available and strong for the same reason: it’s a Ghost move used by a powerful Ghost Pokemon. Shadow Claw can technically be used as well, but its power comes up short of both other moves.

Main Move

Without a main move, a fast move doesn’t mean much. For Gengar, the best main move to choose for both offense and defense is Shadow Ball. Always one of Gengar’s premier moves, it deals a lot of damage here. It may not pack the same punch asPokemon GO’s Mega Gengar, but for a regular Pokemon, it’s more than adequate.

It’s possible that more powerful moves will become available in the future. The key will be to watch for new Ghost-type moves, as Gengar gives the biggest bonus to these before other moves. But for now, Lick and Shadow Ball are the way to go when taking onthe newest raid battlesor PVP.
