Summary

A talentedPokemonfan has turned Kyogre into a Psychic-type Pokemon and shared the result with other fans. In the almost 30 years it has been around,Pokemonhas released more than 1,000 pocket monsters. This includes Legendary Pokemon, a select group known for their power and their importance in the lore.

Pokemon Ruby and Sapphireintroduced Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza, some of the franchise’s most popular Legendary Pokemon. Groudon is a Ground-type Pokemon that is said to be the creator of the world’s continents, and the personification of the land itself. Kyogre, on the other hand, is a Water-type Pokemon born from high underwater pressures that eventually enters a war for dominance against Groudon. It is then that Rayquaza, a Dragon/Flying-type Pokemon said to have lived in the ozone layer for thousands of years, enters the scene to intervene in thewar between Kyogre and Groudon. Once it restores the peace, Rayquaza returns to rest in the Sky Pillar.

Reddit user JJonnie turned Kyogre into a Water/Psychic-type Pokemon with impressive results. Named Kyancient, the Pokemon created by the artist has a light pink body, with golden outlines reminiscent ofKyogre’s powerful Primal form. Meanwhile, the Pokemon’s pectoral fins and face are similar to the original. Kyancient also has structures all over its body in addition to the fins, giving the Pokemon an alien appearance that will remindPokemonfans of other space critters like Deoxys. According to the artist, the inspiration for Kyancient’s design is the Nazca Lines in Peru, which has a massive drawing of a killer whale.

In addition to the eye-catching design, JJonnie created lore for Kyancient. Kyogre is a Water-type Pokemon considered to be the personification of the sea itself, and the creator of the ocean. Kyancient is a Water/Psychic-type Pokemon that travels the planets sowing the source of life, a role similar to that which Xerneas, one of thestrongest monsters inPokemon X and Y, also possesses. The Pokemon’s ability is Seed of Life, which creates rainy weather and grassy terrain when entering battle. While Kyancient’s original form has a pink body, its shiny version has the same dark blue color as Kyogre.

The Pokemon community is very creative when creating new forms for existing Pokemon, and JJonnie’s fan art is no different. Even the combination of Kyancient’s types is striking because it keeps its reference to Kyogre while reinforcing the alien nature of the Pokemon. Unfortunately, the original Kyogre isn’t present inPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Pokedex.
