OnePokemon HeartGold and SoulSilverfan with a keen eye for detail remade the Mahogany Town gym inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, boasting a practically flawless replica of the Johto region’s Ice-type gym which includes all three rooms. ThePokemon HeartGold and SoulSilvertitles represent a generation ofPokemongames which are understandably held near to the hearts of many veteran Trainers, and it isn’t uncommon to see longtime fans of the franchise paying homage to these classics via countless different creative projects.
Pokemon Gyms have been a staple part of the world-renowned franchisesince its debut way back in 1996, with practically every core-series game since the originalPokemon Red and Bluefeaturing these buildings or something similar to them. To Pokemon Trainers, Gyms represent challenging hurdles which are sure to test their battling skills, with each gym being run by its own Gym Leader who essentially serves as a type of boss. Though these Gym Leaders are some of the toughest adversaries that players will go up against throughout their journeys around any given region, each gym tends to adhere to a certain type only, and defeating all of a region’s Gym Leaders will reward players with the 8 Badges that they need to take on the Pokemon League.

In this case, one creative player by the name of 19netta on Reddit reconstructed Pryce’s Ice-type Gym inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, sharing their design via a post on the site. The attached series of screenshots shows off the three recreated rooms, with each one mirroringthe layout of the original Pokemon Gymalmost perfectly. In addition to the identically-shaped rooms and textures which match the ice-cold aesthetic, the creator even went to the length of including the slippery ice floors and blocks which make up the puzzle that players will need to solve in order to progress through the Gym inHeartGold and SoulSilver. As the cherry on top, the fan also included an icy chair in the build where the Gym Leader, Pryce, can be found in the original games.
With nearly every one of the 9 Generations of core-seriesPokemontitles including their own set of 8 different Gyms, it’s safe to say that there are many different favorites among fans. Many of the more recent games, particularlyPokemon Sword and Shield, have done a lot to switch up the formula when it comes to Gyms, although many will remember that Gyms were absent in the Generation 7 games in favor of Trials instead.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violethave also introduced many new Gyms and Gym Leaders that became fan-favorites almost immediately. Though the latest games have many of their own flaws which fans continue to hope are addressed in the future, they have certainly done well inintroducing colorful new characters and stories to the world ofPokemon.
