Summary

Many fans of thePokemonseries believe that there are far too few “baby Pokemon” in the series, leading one creative fan artist to design a new pre-evolutionary form of their own for the Bug and Fighting-type Pokemon, Heracross. Despite it appearing in practically everyPokemontitle since its introduction to the series as well as its overall popularity among fans, Heracross doesn’t have much when it comes to evolutions, which makes it something of a double-edged sword in terms of strength.

First introduced in the highly-regarded Gen 2Pokemontitles,Pokemon Gold and Silver, Heracross has enjoyed relatively consistent popularity among thePokemoncommunity over the years, despite the rapidly-growing roster of creatures. It stands out as one of those rare Pokemon that doesn’t have any further or previous evolutionary forms, though it also happened to be one of the luckyPokemon to receive a Mega evolutionway back in the Gen 6 games.

While a lot ofPokemonfans have taken to letting their imaginationsproduce evolutionary forms for Pokemonsuch as Heracross over the years, one community artist has done something a little different. The creator of this overwhelmingly adorable baby Heracross goes by the name retroplayman across most social media and shared their design featuring the pre-evolutionary “Herittle” in a post on Reddit. This cute little critter exhibits many of the same features seen in Heracross' design, albeit in a much smaller, less-developed way. The artist responsible for its creation shows off the Tiny Stag Beetle Pokemon in various poses throughout the gallery of images in the original post.

This isn’t the first baby Pokemon design to come from this fan artist, nor is it the first time thePokemoncommunity has taken to designing their own pre-evolutionary forms for some of their favorite creatures in the series. With relatively few Pokemon having any kind of baby forms to speak of, it has mostly fallen to fans to bring these concepts to life - though that may not be too much of a surprise, as the idea of adding morepre-evolutions for existing Pokemonversus the addition of new species altogether makes for a rather divisive topic among the larger fanbase. Baby Pokemon tend to be seen as the more endearing ones to feed and play with in minigames, but they’ll almost never be seen on the teams of players who prefer competitive battles.

WhilePokemon Scarlet and Violethave introduced wild new formsfor existing Pokemon in the form of Paradox Pokemon, it’s also clear that the designers behind thePokemonseries aren’t afraid to bring in new evolutions for some existing creatures as well. This is the case for Pokemon such as Applin and Duraludon, which are both lucky enough to receive entirely new evolutionary forms in Gen 9’s Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC.
