With Blizzard focusing most of its development resources onOverwatch 2,Overwatchhas been resourceful in creating new gameplay experiences without the support it had before. That includes mixing up balance with experimental cards, bringing back past holiday events with new rewards, and the uniqueOverwatchchallenges. In that vein, Blizzard has now announced the nextOverwatchchallenge event. Starting next week,Overwatchplayers will be able to experience Reaper’s Code of Violence Challenge. On Sunday, Blizzard shared a message on Twitter confirming that Reaper’s Code of Violence Challenge will officially start on February 22. The Challenge will then remain available through March 7, a solid two weeks. Details regarding what the Challenge will entail, as well as its rewards, have yet to be announced. All Blizzard offered up was a short video showing off a pile ofReaper’s Hellfire Shotgunsand some purple wisps of smoke.RELATED:Awesome Overwatch Clip Sees Ashe Surviving Pharah’s Concussive BlastThe most recentOverwatchChallenge was delivered in November 2021 withCassidy’s New Blood Challenge. To call it much of a Challenge, however, would be confusing the definition of the word. AllOverwatchplayers had to do to earn rewards was play games and watch Twitch streams featuringOverwatch. Playing 27 games (with wins counting as two games) rewarded players with a Cassidy-themed player icon, spray, and Epic skin. WatchingOverwatchfor six hours on Twitch would reward six total chibiOverwatchsprays.

The Challenge prior to Cassidy’s wasAshe’s Deadlock Challenge. It too only required players to play so many games and to watch so many hours ofOverwatchgameplay on Twitch to earn all its limited-availability rewards. Even the reward progression is identical to the Cassidy challenge.

While it would be exciting if Blizzard could make Reaper’s Code of Violence Challenge require some more in-depth gameplay,Overwatchplayers likely aren’t setting their expectations very high. As noted,Overwatchisn’t receiving much support in terms of material content right now. That there will be a range of new rewards for Reaper is more than many expected. At some point,Overwatchplayers just have to be content while theywait forOverwatch 2to arrive.

Fans can expect Blizzard to share a proper trailer and a news article for Reaper’s Code of Violence Challenge in the next day that shows off what rewards will be available, including what should be a newEpic Reaper skin. It may not be the kind of exciting new content thatOverwatchplayers are hungry for, but it’s at least something new and rewarding to help bridge the gap until the next in-game event.

Overwatchis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
