As fans know, Garp is Luffy’s grandfather and, thus, a very important character in the story. Garp also has several legends about himself written into the story, however, fans did not get to see a demonstration of his capabilities until recently. One Piece1080 finally gave fans a glimpse of not just his raw strength, but alsohis legendary Conqueror’s Haki.

The Legendary Hero Garp

Garp was one of the brightest naval officersfrom the very beginning of his journey. Oda has not revealed much about his past, however, what fans do know for sure is that Garp was a free-spirited child from the very beginning. When Oda drew all the naval officers during their childhood, Garp was seen leading a life very similar to that of Luffy. He was carrying a treasure chest on the top of a beaten-up tiger, holding a pipe in his hand that fans know Luffy, Ace, and Sabo all carried during their childhood. This is a clear indication that Garp is a free-spirited character and this plays directly into why he has Conqueror’s Haki.

Growing up, Garp, for some reason, ended up joining the Marines, and together with Sengoku and Tsuru, he ended up making quite a great name for himself. Sengoku ended up becoming the Fleet Admiral of the Navy while Tsuru, despite being just a Vice Admiral like Garp, was respected tremendously for her knowledge, wisdom, and strength. Garp sprung onto the scene specifically duringthe God Valley Incident. On this day, he teamed up with Roger and fought against the legendary pirate Rocks D. Xebec. While the two ended up defeating him together, it was Garp who was given all the credit by the World Government and thereafter, he came to be known as Garp, the Hero of the Marines.

Garp’s Conqueror’s Haki Against The Blackbeard Crew

Garp went on to establish many legends about himself. He became a direct rival to Roger and along with Sengoku, came to be known as the only Marine officer capable of holding his own against the Pirate King. Roger himself went on to claim that Garp and he had almost killed each other numerous times, which just goes to show that he was in the same league as the Pirate King himself. Whitebeard mentioned that Garp, Sengoku, Shiki, and Roger were all part of the same generation and possessed similar might. Meanwhile, Chinjao, who fans know to be the 12th leader of the Happo Navy of Kano Kingdom, went on to say that in his prime, Garp was a demon to the pirates.

Taking all this into consideration and given the fact that Garp rejected promotions to stay a free-spirited officer explains why he has the power of Conqueror’s Haki. InOne Piece1080, Garp demonstrated this Haki to the fans for the very first time. After Koby was abducted by Blackbeard and held hostage on the Pirate Island, Garp took a small group with him to this island and launched an all-out assault on the pirates. After shoving his ship into the air, he jumped off it and from the skies, delivered a mighty punch with a fist infused with the Color of the Supreme King. He called this attack Galaxy Fist.

How Strong Is Garp’s Haki?

One Piece1080 made it clear to the fans that Garp is still at a very high level right now. His Haki seems to be incredibly powerful. Even though Garp is very old, the Haki that he exuded during his assault on the Blackbeard Pirates was nothing short of staggering for the fans to witness. Along with Shanks, Luffy, and Kaido, this is the best display of Conqueror’s Haki that fans have seen so far. Garp coated his right hand in the Color of the Supreme King and the lightning bolts produced by it were so large that they spanned overly entire island, despite him being several meters high in the sky. Garp then went on to punch down in the air and the shock wave that the punch produced was enough to destroy the entirety of the town underneath him. He did so without making physical contact with the town, which is nothing short of shocking for the fans to witness.

While an exact estimation of his strength can’t be made based on just one punch, fans know that Garp is a person in the same league as the legendary pirates Whitebeard and Roger. While Roger is no longer alive, fans saw a demonstration from Whitebeard during the Paramount War. During this war, Whitebeard was so sick that he could not even tap into the power of Conqueror’s Haki. He had to rely onhis Devil Fruit powersentirely and even then, he was considered to be a threat powerful enough to sink the entirety of Marineford to the bottom of the ocean.

Garp, meanwhile, has no health issues like Whitebeard. At the same time, he also does not have a Devil Fruit which means all his strength must come from his Haki alone. The fact that he is still considered to be in the same league as Whitebeard means that Garp has tremendously powerful Haki, likely even stronger than that of Whitebeard himself. Based on demonstration alone, Garp’s Haki can only be matched by the likes of Shanks right now and possibly Luffy, who managed to defeat Kaido with Bajrang Gun, which also exuded tremendous amounts of Conqueror’s Haki.
