The untitledOcean’s Elevenprequel starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling that made headlines last year is now scheduled to go into production right before spring 2023, with no estimated release date.
WhileWarner Bros.' 2001Ocean’s Elevenled by George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon is the more famous iteration of the franchise, this new prequel is set to take place in the ’60s, and it will be a remake of the originalOcean’s 11that came out at the start of that decade. That film featured an ensemble cast that included the famed Las Vegas Rat Pack of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop, in addition to Angie Dickinson and Richard Conte. However, its impact and legacy never came close to the newer version.

As posted on the official site of the Film & Television Industry Alliance, the “UntitledOcean’s ElevenPrequel” now shows Robbie and Gosling as confirmed cast members. A filming start date of July 26, 2025, is included in the listing, hinting at all pre-production work either being complete is close to being finalized. For now, no further casting announcements have been made, but given the nature of anyOcean’sfilm, there will be plenty of speculation over which actors join the two stars in the coming months.
Robbie and Gosling alsoco-star in this year’s upcomingBarbiemovie, scheduled for summer, whose cryptic2001: A Space Odyssey-style trailer has already made it one of the most highly anticipated films in 2023. Barbie is sure to have cemented the pair’s chemistry and working relationship, as Robbie was first cast for the leading role in this potentialOcean’s Elevenreboot. The last time audiences were treated to Ocean’s heist was in 2018’sOcean’s 8, which featured an all-female gang.
The fact that this new take on the franchise is currently thought of as a prequel will make fans of these movies wonder if older characters from theOcean’ssaga, such as Elliot Gould’s Reuben, will be referenced in any way.Heist movies are always brimming with potential, proven by the success of four modern entries sinceOcean’s Eleven.Considering the vintageOcean’s 11neither aged well nor was ever praised, a trip back to the ’60s does sound very appealing.
In Robbie and Gosling, thisOcean’s Elevenalready has two of Hollywood’s most popular actors, so it’ll be interesting to see which 9 stars make up the rest of the team and what kind of flair modern cinema can add to a ’60s heist film. However, there are plenty ofother heist movies out there to watchin the meantime.
