It seems as though everybody enjoyedUniversal’sNobody, and the Bob Odenkirk-led film made enough of a splash for audiences to gleefully ask for more. Luckily, it seems the movie’s creators agree with the sentiment wholeheartedly, as evidenced by a report that they’re already working on the script for a potential sequel to theJohn Wick-style action piece.
The film’s director, Ilya Naishuller, reportedly has no intention of resting on his laurels afterNobody’s success, which saw an impressive $26 million domestic box office haul. “There’s plenty of stories that can be told in this world, with the character Hutch,” Naishuller said in an interview with movie news site JoBlo. “I know that Derek has begun work on the sequel.” His statement refers to Derek Kolstad, who wrote the original film and has apparently already started to sculpt what will eventually become Hutch’s second big shooty adventure.

Nobodysaw Odenkirk as Hutch, a mysterious family man who’s suddenly dragged back into his dangerous past thanks to a home invasion and a chance encounter with a mobster’s son. What followed was a brutal series of events featuring Odenkirk’s unexpected action hero fighting through the criminal underworld as he tries to prove to his family (and himself) how important they are to him and what he’s willing to do to protect them. Also, Christopher Lloyd wields a shotgun at one point. Spoiler alert.
Naishuller also seemed to hint at the possibility of Rebecca, Hutch’s wife, seeing some action of her own the next time around, giving actress Connie Nielsen a shot at some of the heavy-hitting scenes that Odenkirk brought to life in the first film. But it’s also worth noting that, even though Naishuller and Kolstad appear to be all in for a sequel, it hasn’t been officially greenlit yet. So at the very least, eager fans should temper their expectations. But hey, there’s always the possibility ofa crossover withJohn Wick.
Still, considering how successfulNobodywas, particularly during a time where theater attendance wasn’t exactly the most booming of activities, a sequel almost seems like a given at this point. Just like how audiences always turn up to see the newest take onJohn Wick’s “Keanu Reeves decreases the world’s population by a few percentage points” formula, a similar take on the idea likeNobodywill likely prove to be yet another fun little outlet for moviegoers to enjoy some good old-fashioned brutal violence. That theory may also be tested whenKaren Gillan’s similarly-styledGunpowder Milkshakereleases in July.
With Naishuller and Kolstad on the job, a sequel seems to be in good hands, and if Odenkirk officially gets on board as well, the whole thing will probably be inevitable. Even so, it’s best not to get hopes up too high.Cyberpunk 2077already taught everyone that particular lesson.
