Fortnitehas been bringing unexpected and awesome crossovers to gamers around the world for about five years now, and the impact it’s had on popular culture is hard to calculate. Not only has the game done a great job of introducing fans to new characters and properties, but it also changes the way fans may view these crossover characters–including real-life celebrities. Recently, the NFL referred to former WWE superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as “Guy fromFortnite” in his recent Super Bowl appearance.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson could be consideredone of the biggest action movie stars on the planet. On top of appearing in a number of blockbuster titles, he was also a legend at the WWE who is still warmly regarded by many wrestling fans today.

Although Johnson has had a long and storied career over the years, it appears that the NFL wishes to put a spotlight on one recent development–hisarrival as a skin inFortnite. The official NFL YouTube channel shared a video titled “Guy from Fortnite with The Most Electrifying Introduction in Super Bowl History” focusing on Johnson’s opening speech from the recent Super Bowl event. While this is technically an accurate title, fans of Johnson’s work may be slightly confused to see the NFL refer to his video game appearance rather than his career as an actor and athlete.

Players can acquire a skin of Johnson byunlocking The Foundation skinand all accompanying cosmetics. The Foundation is the enigmatic leader of The Seven, a mysterious group of powerful characters that play a significant role in the game’s story. Although he is technically a separate character from Johnson, he uses Johnson’s likeness and voice. His skin and cosmetics can now be acquired by completing various quests, an opportunity that may attract fans of the A-lister toFortnite.

It’s possible that the NFL deliberately referred to Johnson as “Guy fromFortnite” as a joke. Johnson is not only one of the highest-paid actors in the world, but theNFL has crossed over withFortnitebefore. This appears to indicate that the NFL is well aware of who Johnson is outside his appearance in a video game crossover. Whatever the case, it may not be a coincidence that this video was posted around the same time that The Foundation’s skin and cosmetics were finally released inFortnite.

Fortniteis free-to-play on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
