Since the Epic Game Store first hit PCs back in 2018, it’s been the go-to storefront for thousands of gamers on a budget, offering a significant lineup of huge titles for free.Grand Theft Auto 5, Just Cause 4, Watch Dogs 2, A Total War Saga: Troy,andCivilization 6have all been available with no price tag at one point or another on the storefront with no strings attached.
As those who often claim their free games onEpic Games Storewill no doubt know, the selections available change every single week, and thanks to a new update, fans now know what will be hitting the store as of next Thursday. On December 3, the store’s current offering ofMudRunnerwill be replaced byCave Story+.

For those who’ve never seen the popular platformer before,Cave Story+is a remaster ofCave Story: a 2D Metroidvania platformer created over a span of five years by Daisuke Amaya and independently published back in 2004. With the game going on to be a major success and a core part of the indie scene, it has since become renown as a quintessential classic.Cave Story+eventually resurrected the game for PC in 2011, offering improved graphics, a remastered soundtrack and more. With the game originally hittingSteam, Epic Games Store players will be able to experience the classic platformer when it debuts for free next week.
Cave Story+joins a lineup of great games that have come to the Epic Games Store in recent weeks, includingGhostbusters: The Video Game, Blair Witch, Elite Dangerous,andLayers of Fear 2.Seeing as players can set up an account with Epic Games for free and can keep the games permanently, it’s easily one of the most enticing offers available in the gaming sphere.
As for other free game services, it seems this month will come with some notable goodies.PlayStation Plusplayers will get access to three games, includingJust Cause 4, Rocket Arena,andWorms Rumble.Meanwhile, Xbox Games with Gold players will be able to hop ontoThe Raven: Remastered, Bleed 2,Saints Row: Gat out of Hell,andStacking.
Some fans aren’t all too pleased with Microsoft’s lineup for December, however, criticizing the company for offering lackluster games. After seeing titles likeBugsnaxfeature prominently on PlayStation’s November free game lineup, it’ll be intriguing to see whether both companies offer more next-generation titles in the coming months.
