Incredibly, just a week before Manor Lords arrived, fans of the Middle Ages were also treated to the announcement of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, which eventually arrived in February of 2025, taking the gaming world by storm. The success of these two games and others has naturally got players excited for more upcoming medieval games, of which there are thankfully plenty in development.
10Norse
A Realistic, Turn-Based Viking Game
Norse warriors and traders of the 9th to 11th centuries, most commonly known to us as Vikings, are unfortunately portrayed as barbaric raiders in leather and fur with horned helmets in most media. The upcoming gameNorse, however, seems to provide a much more realistic aesthetic and stands out from other medieval games as it is turn-based.
Anyone whoenjoyedBaldur’s Gate 3and similar gamescan look forward to the strategy of deciding which attacks and abilities to use each round. Outside of combat, the aim is to build a settlement and foster a community of craftsmen and farmers, and potentially forge alliances too. The game is set in 802 AD Norway, giving it a much more grounded world.

9Legends Of The Round Table
An RPG Based On Arthurian Literature
While King Arthur may not have been real, medieval people were obsessed with Arthurian poetry, and the stories of Camelot and his Round Table are just as exciting today.Legends of the Round Tableis an upcoming RPG that promises to bring these Arthurian tales to life, with knightly quests, intrigue, and courtly love.
Vibrant in color and inspired by real medieval manuscript art, the game is hand-drawn, while the authentic music has been recorded on instruments from the Middle Ages. Those looking for anew knight gamewill be glad to know that they can charge down foes with a lance, using the game’s turn-based combat, which also incorporates cards.

8Anvil Empires
A Medieval MMO With Persistent Worlds & Wars From The Creators Of Foxhole
For those who have never heard ofFoxhole, it is a World War MMO game where wars are fought between two sides of real players over the course of months until one side wins. Everything in the game is created by the players.Anvil Empires, from the same developers, continues this legacy of continuous wars with all resources made and transported by players, but will take place in a medieval setting.
In the backlines, players will build villages where crops can be planted, animals can be tended to, and weapons can be crafted. They will want to connect these settlements with others and engage in trade, but they will also need to prepare for war as the other sides will not sit idle. When battles start, expect hundreds of players to fight side by side with shields interlocked, or they could instead charge in on horseback as one.

7Middle Ages: Peasants & Knights
A Medieval Survival & Sandbox Game
For lovers of the medieval period who also enjoy sandbox games with survival and crafting,Middle Ages: Knights & Peasantsis a future game to look out for. Set in 14th-century Europe, players will be able to engage in supposedly accurate crafting. This will involve grinding grain, smelting, and blacksmithing.
One nice touch for fans ofrealism and immersion in games, is the fact that characters can only carry as much as a real person, which means if they fell a tree, they will need a way to transport the timber home.

6Half Sword
Physics-Based Medieval Duels In Full Plate Armor
If players can’t get enough of medieval combat games, thenHalf Swordis certainly one to keep an eye on. The game features 15th-century arms and armor, with a large focus on realism and accurate fighting styles. Thanks to thephysics-based combat, players will truly feel like they are the ones with a sword, mace, or other weapon in their hands.
While there is no release date yet, PC players can check out the free demo forHalf Swordon Steam and possibly help out with playtests too. Learning the complex fighting mechanics early will give players an advantage when the game finally releases. Fans of true medieval history will also be glad to see that the vibrancy of the Middle Ages has been accurately depicted, something that is thankfully becoming more common in media.

Although it won’t be arriving until 2025,Crimson Desertis certainly a game to get excited about, and players will be surprised at just how ambitious the project is. Set in a medieval fantasy world that shares some characteristics withBlack Desert Online,Crimson Desertis instead a single-player open-world RPG. The continent of Pywel is reportedly huge, with players being able to explore multiple different regions, each with its own stories to tell.
From the trailer alone, fans are not only able to see how beautiful the game looks but also just how many gameplay options will be available to them. In many ways,Crimson Desertlooks almost like a medieval fantasy version ofRDR2,with players being able to hijack wagons and tame horses. However, there are alsomany unique elements, such as the ability to push siege towers onto foes or take to the skies in a hot air balloon.

4Blight: Survival
An Extraction-Lite Game Set In A Land Ravished By Plague
Although it doesn’t currently have a release date,Blight: Survivalis an upcoming medieval game to get excited about, in large part due to the incredible combat animations that were shown off in its trailer. The premise ofthe extraction-lite gameis that players are dropped into an alternate medieval world, where a deadly plague has taken over, infecting the fallen. This Blight mutates corpses and brings them back to life, and it is the player’s job to locate the source of the Blight and destroy it.
As mentioned previously, the animations are a huge standout, as there is a real weight to every movement, and actions such as tackling and grappling are both possible. The late medieval armor also looks fantastic and highly accurate, with the developers additionally confirming that it can all be customized.

3Kinstrife
A Medieval RPG With Physics-Based Combat
Kinstrifeis an upcoming medieval RPG that will see players travel the tumultuous lands of 13th-century Germany as a knight with their loyal retinue in tow. The open world promises to be non-linear, allowing players to visit countless historical locations where they can engage in tournaments or real battles, earning wealth and respect.
One of the major draws ofKinstrifeis the physically simulated combat that the developers claim is revolutionary. Each slash and stab of the sword or any other weapon will be fully simulated, meaning it won’t simply clip through oncoming weapons or shields, and instead, players must use skill to strike in strategic places.

2Gothic Remake
A Modern Remake Of The Medieval Fantasy Classic From 2001
In 2001,Gothicwas a revolutionary RPG, and players who were around back then still have fond memories of the series. Soon, however, there will be a completely modern remake, featuring realistic graphics and an improved combat system that still feels similar.
While theGothic Remakeis not a wholly medieval game featuring many fantasy elements and an exaggerated grim setting, it should still appeal to many fans who just can’t get enough of adventures inspired in some part by the Middle Ages. As players explore and attempt to survive in the mining colony where much ofGothictakes place, they will notice that the world is truly alive, as everyone sleeps, eats, and has a job to do. TheGothicgames are known for packing tonnes of exploration into seemingly small worlds.

A Medieval Battle Simulator Where Players Bring Guns To A Swordfight
Kingmakersis an upcoming game that asks what would happen if one person went back to the medieval period armed with the latest military technology. In this battle simulator, players can control their army of knights, archers, and men-at-arms, but most of the game appears to be spent in third-person, with players plowing down opponents with machine guns and blowing them up with grenades.
In thisalternate history game, historical accuracy is thrown out of the window to make room for fun, and it looks like there will be lots of it. On top of guns and other handheld weapons, players can surge through the ranks in armored SUVs and even call in earth-shattering airstrikes. The developers aim to releaseKingmakerson PC in Early Access during Q2 of 2024, with console versions planned for the full release. Players may also be excited to learn that there are plans for a film adaptation ofKingmakers.
