Mortal Kombat 11has gone relatively quiet since the release of Spawn, with many thinking that an announcement was building for Kombat Pack 2. However, NetherRealm Studios teased something shocking today: NewMortal Kombat 11Story DLC.
As seen in the trailer below, the story DLC picks up at the end ofMortal Kombat 11,with Liu Kang and Raiden working together to forge a new history and timeline. They are stopped by none other than Shang Tsung, the franchise’s original villain an MK11’s first DLC character, who tells Liu Kang to stop or “doom us all.” Perhaps the most intriguing part of this tease, which confirms that more information will be made available on May 6 at 6 AM PT, is that Shang Tsung is backed by two silhouettes.

MK11 Existing DLC Characters
Looking at the character’s silhouettes, there’s a few suggestions as to who they could be. The figure in the middle is most likely Shang Tsung, with the character to his right having a “bulbous” head and a staff or quiver on its back. The one on the left side appears to be feminine with very sharp shoulder pads. Based on this and the fact that they are being led by a DLC character, it appears it could beMortal Kombat 11’s Sindel and Nightwolf, and this makes a lot of sense given the rest of Kombat Pack 1 characters are guests.
Now, this is big for a few reasons. First and foremost, this means that at least some, if not more, of the characters from theoriginal Kombat Packare being added to theMortal Kombat 11story, meaning there be a lot of added longevity for the characters. Secondly, Sindel and Nightwolf are practically sworn enemies; seeing them side by side would add a lot of weight to Shang Tsung’s word that Liu Kang and Raiden are about to doom everyone. It’s really enough to see Shang Tsung filling a more “heroic” role with this tease, but having these two characters align would certainly spell doomsday.
MK11 New DLC Characters
There is another question based on the above scene: how does Shang Tsung and friends get here, and how do they know Liu Kang and Raiden’s actions are about to doom theMortal Kombat 11universe? From one perspective, it’s worth mentioning that this could have beenKronika’s planall along. She wanted a timeline where Raiden didn’t exist, at the very least in God form, and that’s happened now. Raiden is mortal, but apparently still involved in mucking things up.
With that in mind, it would make the most sense if Shang Tsung is traveling back in time to stop Liu Kang and Raiden to save the future. Continuing the entry’s time-traveling shenanigans, the question becomes how does Shang Tsung travel back in time? He’s a powerful sorcerer, no doubt, but this ability is curious at best. That said, it’s possible that the figure on the left isn’t as feminine as first thought, as the seemingly long hair and pointed shoulder pads would almost matchFujin’s typical character model. He already has audio files in the game, and it would be interesting if this story DLC connected past and future DLC characters.
Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack 2
There are a couple of caveats to the figure being Fujin though. While Fujin’s model certainly fits the bill, it’s worth asking why Raiden would call out Shang Tsung over Fujin or quarrel with his brother (presumably the premise of the DLC). It’s possible that Raiden just couldn’t make out Fujin, instead recognizing Shang Tsung’s voice, but that doesn’t entirely resolve the latter concern either. Finally,Fujin has been long-rumored as aMK11DLC character, yet he has not been added thus far.
Of course, Sheeva is already in the game and has been long touted as a DLC character for Mortal Kombat 11. This may very well mean that, at the end of this story DLC reveal, NetherRealm Studios also decides to reveal Kombat Pack 2 or will do so sooner thereafter the reveal or the release. Either way, fans hungry for moreMortal Kombat 11DLCare going to get their fill on May 6.
