Yesterday, a newMortal Kombat 11patch was deployed for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, bringing numerous bug fixes and small character adjustments to NetherRealm Studios' popular fighting game. Among the character adjustments were some slight buffs to Raiden, but it seems that the effects of these improvements were not fully understood, as they temporarily allowed the iconicMortal Kombat11 characterto perform an infinite combo.
This infiniteMortal Kombat 11combo centered around Raiden’s Lightning Strike ability, which sees the fighter send a bolt of lightning crashing down upon his opponent, and a video of the loop can be found below. Indeed, NetherRealm made some changes to Lightning Strike in yesterday’s patch, including giving it four more frames of hit advantage and increasing its recovery speed by two frames, and it appears that these tweaks are responsible for Raiden’s unbreakable assault.

Fortunately, the developer was extremely fast to act on fan-made reports of the infinite combo, and a tweet fromNetherRealm StudiosLead Designer Paulo Garcia confirmed that a hotfix addressing it was issued last night. Players report that thisMK11hotfix has indeed removed Raiden’s ability to combo loop, and there is indication that has been done by reducing Lighting Strike’s hit advantage from eleven to six.
Ultimately, this means that one of the ways that yesterday’s patch looked to buffMortal Kombat 11’s Raidenhas now been reverted, and this may prove disappointing to those players that were excited to see thisMK11character get some improvements. That said, few fans would argue that an infinite combo would be good for the game’s long-term health, and anyone that was on the receiving end of the Lightning Strike loop last night will surely be glad to know that executing it is no longer possible.
Interestingly, Raiden has already been receiving some attention as of late, due to fighting game phenom Dominique “SonicFox” McLean’s affinity for the character. Specifically, McLean has recently indicated that Raiden’s Raijin variation is “top five,” and while not everyMortal Kombat 11tier listwill be aligned with this position, SonicFox’s striking resume means that their words cannot be easily discounted. That said, if Raiden is to rise in the ranks of the metagame, it seems that will need to be done without the help of an infinite combo.
