Armor customization is a key part ofMonster Hunterand whether players are customizing their armor for stats or purely for appearance, there is a customization option inMonster Hunter Worldthat players may not know exists. It is possible to unlock a rainbow pigment, that when selected, makes the armor piece in question slowly shift between different colors. It takes a bit of effort to unlock, however, but here is how to do so.

Unlocking General Armor Pigments

To unlock the ability to change the color of one’s armor, players will first need to reach high rank. To reach high rank, the quest called “A Colossal Task” must be completed. This quest will involvea hunt against Zorah Magadros. Once the quest is completed, players will officially be in high rank and unlock the ability to change the color of their armor. However, armor obtained in low rank cannot be pigmented, so players will need to craft new armor sets with high-rank materials. The part of the armor that will be pigmented changes on the armor. There isn’t an in-depth color customization system, but there is a vast variety of colors to choose from from the get-go with the rainbow pigment being the only one that needs to be unlocked.

Completing the Optional Quests

To unlock the rainbow pigment, players will need to complete every one to eight star optional quest. They will also need to complete every assigned quest and the 9 star optional quest “A Light Upon the River’s Gloom,” which is the optional fight againstthe final boss ofMonster Hunter World. It should be noted that there are two assigned quests that come after the final boss.

Players will need toreach HR 29 to unlock the firstand HR 49 to unlock the second. When every optional quest of a certain star rank is completed, an orange sign saying “completed” will be posted next to the stars before selecting a quest. If that sign is blue, then every quest currently available to the player has been completed, but there are more within that rank that have not yet been unlocked.

There are a few things to consider if the blue “completed” sign keeps popping up. The first is to make sure that the special arena quests are available. The special arena quests are quests that rotate in and out that involve fighting one specific monster in the special arena. These quests do not appearunless the monster in question has been captured.

Not every monster has a special arena quest, however. The ones that do are: Pukei-Pukei, Barroth, Tobi-Kadachi, Anjanath, Radobaan, Rathian, Paolumu, Rathalos, Diablos, Odogaron, Legiana, Uragaan, Pink Rathian, Azure Rathalos, and Black Diablos. Any monster that has both high rank and low-rank forms will have two special arena quests that need to be completed. That means that both the low andhigh-rank version of the monsterwill need to be captured.

A second thing to consider is that quests given by NPCs in both Astera and the Research Base count towards the total. Players will want to make sure they talk to anyone in the hubs that have a ! above their head to make sure no quests are missing. Some quests are also locked behind turning in deliveries at the research center, so make sure to keep on top of those as well. Two optional quests are locked behind monster research. Players will need to reach a four-star research level with at least 15 monsters in the game to unlock both.  The only 8 star and below optional quests that do not need to be completed are the ones featuring Lunastra andDeviljho as they were not initiallyin the base game.

The White Winds of the New World

Once players have completed all the above requirements, the Commander in Astera will offer them a new quest called “The White Winds of the New World.” In this quest, players have 25 minutes to hunt a Legiana, Odgaron, Diablos, andRathalosin the Special Arena. They have reduced health to compensate for the reduced time limit and overall number of monsters required to complete the hunt.

Once this quest is completed, players will unlock the rainbow pigment which can be accessed from the bottom of the standard pigment menu. Keep in mind, if a player joins another player who is hosting the “The White Winds of the New World,” but has not yet unlocked the quest for themselves, they will not receive the rainbow pigment upon completion.
